Seattle police are investigating the second homicide in a month in a
South Seattle homeless encampment. According to police, at 12:30 a.m.
on July 22, a homeless man approached a parking-enforcement officer in
the 1700 block of Airport Way South and told the officer that a man had
been shot in the Jungle, a heavily wooded area along I-5 on the west
side of Beacon Hill. At the scene, officers found a homeless man dead
from a single gunshot wound to the chest. According to a department
source, police believe the shooting was drug related. No arrests have
been made…

Leschi

On the evening of July 22, homicide detectives were again called to
the scene of a fatal shooting, this time outside a home near Lake
Washington. SWAT and patrol officers locked down the 800 block of 32nd
Avenue South as they attempted to coax an alleged teen gunman out of
his house. Several hours later, police discovered that the house was
empty. According to charging documents filed in King County Superior
Court on July 27, prosecutors allege that 19-year-old Tristan
Appleberry fired one shot from a 7.62 mm SKS rifle through the rear
window of 18-year-old Aaron Sullivan’s car, striking the teen in the
head. Sullivan died at the scene. Court documents indicate the shooting
was the result of an ongoing feud between Sullivan and Appleberry’s
friends over a girl. Appleberry was arrested the next morning near his
girlfriend’s house in West Seattle…

Ballard

Seattle police
have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with an early-morning
attempted robbery and homicide at a convenience store on 15th Avenue
Northwest and 58th Street. Police say at 6:30 a.m. on July 26, the
17-year-old walked into the Pit Stop Express wearing a snowboard cap,
bandanna, and sunglasses, and attempted to rob the store. The teen got
into an altercation with a 28-year-old employee, police say, and opened
fire. The employee died at Harborview Medical Center later that day. At
about 3:00 p.m. the following day, SPD SWAT officers arrested the
17-year-old at a house in the 900 block of Northwest 60th Street, about
five blocks from the scene of the murder. There have been 12 reported
homicides in Seattle so far this year. By this point in 2008, there had
