Shortly after The Stranger ran an article on the Mosaic
Community Church’s (MCC) recent move to Neumos nightclub on Capitol
Hill [“Rock God,” Jonah Spangenthal-Lee, Nov 20], the club decided to terminate its relationship with the
church, effective immediately.

MCCโ€”a sort of soft-rock version of Mars Hill, the Ballard
megachurchโ€”is affiliated with the Waco, Texasโ€“based Antioch
Community Church. Antioch’s website contains statements lumping
homosexuality in with “drug addiction, poverty, pornography, and people
unaware of their need for God.”

While Pastor Jady Griffin told The Stranger that his church
is “open to everyone,” several members of the MCC told us that gays
would not be accepted at the church.

After the article’s release, Neumos co-owner Steven Severin pushed
Griffin to clarify the church’s stance on homosexuality. Severin says
he didn’t get the answers he was looking for.

“After speaking with [Griffin], I didn’t find enough new information
that made me comfortable with what their actual stance [on
homosexuality] is,” Severin says. “We have to have people who support
our community here, [and] we’re very careful about who we work with. We
decided we’re no longer going to have them here.”

Griffin did not return calls for comment. recommended

  1. The Stranger clearly has bottom of the barrel writers working for them! It took Jonah three tries to spell this dude Jady’s name correctly! Way to be a low quality editorial. As a long time fan of the Stranger, I’m dissappointed and won’t be reading one anytime soon or ever!

  2. I like how the first guy who commented pretended to be a long time reader who must suddenly stop because of spelling errors. You might be a good christian but you’re still a petty human like the rest of us ^_^

As for the second poster, you don’t have to leave seattle, just the part you hate (the gay part).
