Saying she “has a detailed vision for how to work with everyone in Seattle to take on white supremacy, economic inequality, and corporate power,” Democracy for America has endorsed Cary Moon for mayor.
The Vermont-based progressive political action committee, founded by Howard Dean, this year has undertaken a $500,000 effort to target city elections as a way of fighting the Trump administration. A spokesperson for the group did not rule out spending money in the race, but said the group will focus on mobilizing volunteers for Moon.
“Over the last decade, Seattle has become a national leader in the fight for progressive policies and priorities,” DFA Chair Jim Dean said in a statement. “Electing Cary Moon mayor gives Seattle an opportunity to make it clear that itโs doubling down on that populist progressive leadershipโsomething that could not be more important in the wake of Donald Trumpโs election.”
DFA endorses and backs candidates at all levels of government, including, the group says, in contested primaries against “corporate Democrats.” In the past, DFA has endorsed Seattle City Council members Lisa Herbold, Mike OโBrien, Kshama Sawant, and Lorena Gonzรกlez and Washington Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. The group says it has 75,600 members in Washington state.
