Sarah Palin officially resigned on Sunday, throwing down yet another amazing speech. Some of it almost made sense.

Really, though, nothing is as funny and terrifying as just reading the actual text. I’m starting to actually hope she is the Republicans nominee in 2012. If she wins, I’ll probably leave the country, but it sure would be something to see what happens when the actual, literal morons take over.

  1. I’ve seen snippets of the speech and I just can’t make myself watch it all… Maybe it will be easier to read the transcript.

  2. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Liberals are terrified of Sarah Palin because she is a strong conservative woman with Christian values who is not afraid of leftist elites.

    I just donated $100 to her PAC, and right thinking Americans who want to restore this great country to it’s proper place and save it from otherwise inevitable civil war will do the same.

  8. If there is a civil war, do you think there’s a chance that someone might try to shoot Sarah Palin from a helicopter?

    There’s a word for that kind of thing, but ironically it escapes me.

    @2: The best part of this is that you hold her in high regard for her integrity and smarts, something she clearly lacks. Referring to you as morally and mentally deficient is probably a little too generous, but I can’t think of any term that encapsulates the Lord Basil Experience(tm).

  12. If she runs, and if she fails miserably (i.e., is a ten-percenter), that might restore just a small bit of my faith in humanity. I’d like to hope that people aren’t dumb enough to vote for her, but I guess we’ll see…

    Also, if there’s anything Sarah Palin is not afraid of, it’s logic.
    (Oh. And the big bad wolf. But only ‘cos she already shot him. Out of a helicopter. With an automatic, high-caliber rifle fitted with a state-of-the-art scope. You know, like the founding fathers used to do.)
    If only she or her script-writers weren’t so plain goddamned terrified of a second draft.
    As for “The Shat”, I think Amelie Gillette (AKA The Hater from the A.V. Club) put it best: “William Shatner: Actor, Kidney-Stone-Seller, Genius.”

  23. The interesting thing is this: If there was a liberal equivlaent to Sarah Palin at LEAST 99% of the liberals would be intelligent enough to realize the liberal-Sarah-Palin is a complete and total moron.

  26. I don’t see her a strong woman at all. Her proudly aggressive ignorance shows she is weak. She uses touchstone issues to fire up her masses and irks those who oppose her. A wise person does not work like this. Wise people do not follow these false leaders. The only threat she poses is to the stature of wisdom and benevolence. You don’t have to be elite – liberal or conservative to appreciate this. If she considers herself a Christian and wants to lead in this way, why doesn’t she lead like Christ would? She is the antithesis of this.

    I understand the emotion here, but I have to say I get tired of the “if x happens I’m leaving the country” threat that seems to occur exclusively on the left/progressive side.

    I’m not arguing that a Palin administration isn’t a horrific prospect.

    It just seems a little juvenile to threaten to move away – like a pissy teenager threatening to run away from home because he doesn’t like how his mom runs the house.

  28. Basil dear, you’re not dipping into your Cheetos and Mountain Dew budget are you? You still haven’t caught up from the last time you did that, so you haven’t been able to afford that new muumuu you wanted – you know, the one with the whales on it that we saw at K-Mart?

    Remember our little talk about budgeting? The state is awfully nice to give you that money every month, but you have to make sure you spend it wisely, or unhappy things happen.

    (Thank God for Section eight. I don’t know where we’d have poor Basil at without it…..)

  31. It is soo easy to hop on the web and poke fun at others, yes? So easy to categorize and pigeonhole people. Yes, the William Shatner take was amusing, yes, Palin is poorly equipped to handle office….BUT if you read the words, by themselves; there are a lot of truths within them. They paint a picture and tell a story. The largest being that our once great country is at war, there are still young people fighting and dying. You might not know we are at war because the press at large has failed to do their job, and instead focused their attention elsewhere.

    All jokes aside, this nation was never less ready to complete it’s mission. It truly doesn’t matter the “why” we are overseas, it matters only the outcome. Think about this on Friday when you all jump back on the blogs to talk about the beer president Obama has with Gates and some “stupid” police officer. Think about the men and women who joined the armed forces.
