Today, Congressman Paul Gosar contacted the U.S. Capitol Police, as well as Attorney General Jeff Sessions, asking they consider checking identification of all attending the State of the Union address and arresting any illegal aliens in attendance.

This can clearly only be in response to the news that 27 Democratic legislators are bringing undocumented immigrants, many of them Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program recipients, to the State of the Union. Senator Maria Cantwell is among them. The senator from Washington will be bringing Maru Mora Villalpando, an undocumented immigrant rights activist targeted by immigration officials, to tonight’s event.
Capitol Police, however, do not have the authority to enforce immigration law, much to some Republicans’ chagrin.
