In Case You Missed It: Mayor McGinn apologizes for pepper spraying peaceful protesters.
Run For Your Lives! There could be a “pinch” of snow in Seattle this week.
Scandal in Snohomish: County Executive Aaron Reardon allegedly used county-paid trips to conduct an affair with another county employee.
Happy Two-Month Anniversary: Occupiers in New York clashed with police this morning as they tried to march on the New York Stock Exchange. At least 75 were arrested.
Bank of America, Occupied: At least 100 people were arrested in San Francisco for occupying and shutting down a Bank of America branch.
Occupy Australia? Obama announced, while visiting Australia, that the US will increase its military presence in the Pacific.
Not So Bunga Bunga: The announcement of austerity measures in Italy was met with protests across the country.
In Syria: Russia’s foreign minister says the violence in Syria is “similar to civil war.” The UN reports that at least 3,500 people have been killed since March.

Most pitiful apology ever. I would take him more seriously if he canned Diaz as part of it.
Wasting police resources and tax dollars while “the 1%” continues business as usual at large. Thanks for fighting the good fight you worthless fucks.
He’s sorry peaceful folks got pepper sprayed because of the non-peaceful folks, but he’s not saying he would have had the cops do differently.
@1, @2, and @3 all are winners today.
Interestingly enough, Nick and I were discussing this at the Italian Film Fest party last night, and wondering how the Mayor and Council are perceived by different segments of the public, not the whiners who post on blogs.
(notice the self-referential triple dig there? it’s like an Italian movie about illegal immigrants, beuatifully shot, that shows all the possible and probable responses and issues and even casts illegal immigrants in the actual movie, while using Italian government money to film it – we’re all guilty of some part of this, and we’re all muddling thru it)
I know the police don’t like protests. That’s why any and every provocation must get a peaceful response.
@3 Thank you for the first remotely sophisticated public parsing of McGinn’s statement.
I hope Dorli’s instant prominence and sympathy will move OWS’s priorities back toward reforming government and civil society, and away from burning it down and acting out cop-hatred set pieces. How long until someone accuses here of “co-opting” the movement at a GA?
