Another bank bites the dust: North County Bank becomes the ninth bank this year in Washington and the 127th across the country to fail. Its deposits are fully insured. All four of its branches are now under the control of Whidbey Island Bank and will reopen Monday. Vive la recession!

They’re stealin’ our jobs: No, it’s not those dang Messicans we’ve got to worry about todayโ€”it’s the Canadian engineers! Washington engineers helped kill a proposal to let licensed Canadian engineers work in Washington without passing the state’s licensing exam. Just so you know for sure that it’s not about safety or competency, the director of Washington’s licensing board says Canadian standards are more rigorous than our own.

Democrats endorse a Republican: Three area Democrats have endorsed Republican state Senator Pam Roach in her reelection bid against another Republican, Matt Richardson. The three say the endorsement is less about Roach than it is about Richardson’s creepy past. Roach is no choir-girl herself, “[having] been warned or reprimanded about her behavior five times since 1998.”

59th time is the charm: Devaughn “Buster” Dorsey got 48 years in prison after his 59th and most recent conviction yesterday. District court authorities said his is the most extensive record they have ever seen. Everybody wants to be the best at something.

California ready to resume executions: After his most recent stay of execution was denied, Albert Greenwood Brown stands to be the first man executed in California since 2006. California used the downtime to upgrade their lethal injection chamber. Americans still not eating enough veggies: The amount of vegetables we eat falls far below government health guidelines and is not increasing much. How many of our liberal elite readers just angrily spit heirloom tomato seeds all over their keyboards?

Human bomb: Robbers kidnapped a Bank of America worker, strapped a bomb to his chest, and used him to help hold up his own bank in Florida. The employee was unharmed. Human bomb vs. Human Centipede: discuss!

  1. Democrats endorse Pam Roach? I hope she loses for this very reason. I would rather the rat that’s running against her wins. That’s how much I detest her.

  2. Half of the vegetables noted in that NYT article are only such in the culinary sense. They may or may not have the same nutritional type/value as some of the super-vegetables like kale.

Americans don’t eat enough kale or spinach.

  3. @1, there’s a reason they’re endorsing her. She’s a vicious nutjob, but her opponent is a child molester. How ’bout those classy Republicans.

You know, keeping the isolated and ineffective Roach in office is good for the Democrats.

  4. an infestation of rats and roaches in the houses of law, it’s been exponentially ramping upwards since World War II era. Detesting, as an emotion, seems to have remained consistent however.

  5. Fnarf @ 3:

Yes, but what would be better for the Democrats would be an actual Democrat holding that seat.

It was possible, if the Democrats could have gotten a decent candidate of theirs to run. Instead, they had two “ok” candidates split the vote and lose.

Roach only pulled something like 40% in the primary, so she was very weak. Now, this race gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “lesser of two evils”.

Democrats can win in these suburban/rural districts, given the craziness and incompetence of state Republicans…
