In Egypt: At least five people were killed and more were injured in clashes between Muslims and Christians in Cairo today.
In Libya: Gaddafi’s forces bombed fuel depots in Misrata, cutting off the city’s fuel and electricity sources.
In Afghanistan: 24 people were killed by Taliban forces in Kandahar today.
A meta alert of the weirdest degree: US officials have released video footage of Osama bin Laden obsessively watching TV coverage of himself.
Today, in reasons to panic: The New York Times reports that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission isn’t actually doing much regulating, and in some cases sets or changes its standards to what nuclear plant owners want.
Speaking of nuclear meltdowns: In Japan, radioactivity levels are finally low enough to open the doors at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.
Lost: A hiker in the Columbia River Gorge, who rescuers have been searching for since yesterday.
Kicked off their flight: Two imams going to a conference on prejudice against Muslims.
Zoological Society is pissed he came in second: A horse named Animal Kingdom won the Kentucky Derby. He was a last-minute pinch hitter for another horse named Toby’s Corner, and it was his first time racing on dirt. (I am not making most of this up.)
And now, for no reason, here is a video of Jersey Shore transcripts reinterpreted as the work of Oscar Wilde. Good morning!

Well, what do you know!?! I actually enjoyed a part of the worthless piece of known as Jersey Shore! But I’m reluctant to say thanks, all the same.
Santino Fontana– the young lad on the left, is a Washingtonian native. He grew up in the Tri-Cities and performed local theater there.
don’t make me feel sad for a wealthy polygamist terrorist!
@3,
Why would anyone make you feel sad for Newt Gingrich?
“At least five people were killed and more were injured in clashes between Muslims and Christians in Cairo today.”
Surprise, the muslims started it.
@5: Surprise, there’s a buttload of dominionist christian wackadoos just itching to ignite a worldwide conflagration between christians and muslims because they think it will bring about the second coming. Don’t be smug.
If that was how Jersey Shore actually was on TV, I would watch it.
@6 how many Christian mobs have attacked a mosque and murdered its members in the US? It happens every month in the Moslem world.
@8, I’m certainly not a muslim apologist. But in my view the vast majority of christian warmongers are more dangerous because they tend to have led coddled lives and don’t understand the real-world ramifications of what they want to unleash; they also control most of the world’s instruments of war.
Equivalency, and pathos, exists in 1) christians and muslims believing their imaginary sky-friend wants them to exterminate the other; and 2) the remarkable similarities in religious law which both sides, in their fondest dreams, wish to impose upon humanity. Irony exists in that, if their theology is to be believed, the imaginary sky-friends of both christians and muslims are the same entity.
Also, it’s Lara Logan.
“That’s what she said” to “I spilled juice all over myself”? That doesn’t even make sense. Even assuming the use of the obvious euphemism, the retort’s still not funny, and still doesn’t make sense.
@9 so you can’t find examples of Christian mobs in the USA attacking a mosque, murdering Moslems and gang raping a journalist while they’re at it. You just found some vague equivalency with Obama’s foreign policy and church attacks.
@12: We have better security in the more developed Western nations. Notice that the incidents you deplore tend to occur in less-secure nations such as Egypt or Syria, rather than Jordan or Indonesia. Christian mobs are no more civilized than Muslim mobs, but rather tend to be better defended-against by the governments of the locale.
