Seattle Cop’s “You’re Gonna Get Your Ass Shot, Boy” Was Captured on Camera: The unidentified officer who said this got a 15-day suspension last year. An SPD internal investigation brought the damning dashboard camera footage, on which an officer’s laughter can be heard, to light. UPDATE: KIRO obtained the name of the police officer, Officer Jennifer Hunt, through a PDR request. SPD confirmed her identity this morning.
Seattle Dog Rides Bus to Dog Park, Alone: The dog’s name is Eclipse. And by occasionally cruising to the dog park on Metro Transit without her owner, she has eclipsed almost all other morning news items. Also, BREAKING: Eclipse is so impressive she’s caused Charles Mudede to admit an error.
Senate Republicans May Have Figured Out How to Slaughter Inslee’s Cap-and-Trade Proposal: The two-thirds rule. Senator Michael Baumgartner (R-Spokane) and Senator Doug Ericksen (R-Ferndale) announced at the start of the legislative session that they’d be trying to change senate rules so that any new tax increases (like a tax on carbon for the state’s worst polluters) require a two-thirds voting majority. On Monday, they won, using the Republicans’ simple majority in the senate to change senate rules to require a supermajority for new taxes. (So, um, how are they going to fund K-12 now?!)
The Washington State Department of Transportation Is Pissed Off at the Seattle Department of Transportation: Why? Well, Seattle transportation officials kinda went through WSDOT’s drawers and found a set of weird and alarming edits in an engineering report. Yesterday, the state told the Seattle City Council it was disappointed in SDOT for making a public fuss. Council Member Mike O’Brien said he was disappointed in the WSDOT. All levels of government would like you to know that they are very disappointed, which is language that barely conceals the giant tantrum likely happening behind closed doors.

Someone Thinks That Making Seahawks Players Talk to Sports Reporters Is Comparable to Bullying and Domestic Violence: “You advocate against bullying and domestic violence, but force your players into uncomfortable situations?” a Seahawks fan asked the NFL in a GoPetition.com filing on Sunday. The fan’s question refers to the NFL’s media policy, which dictates that athletes paid $6.5 million a year or more face fines if they don’t throw a few platitudes at sports reporters before they hit the showers. China Doesn’t Want Our Chicken: China has banned all US poultry and egg imports after the discovery of avian flu among Oregon, Washington, and California birds. Washington, meanwhile, has put an eight-month quarantine on poultry and eggs from Benton and Franklin counties. The infected birds were non-commercial—meaning they were wild or lived in people’s backyards—but 29 other countries have also limited their American chicken intake.
Charlie Hebdo Runs a Cover of the Prophet Muhammad Holding a “Je Suis Charlie” Sign: The headline, which will be printed on 3 million copies in 16 languages, reads, “All is Forgiven.” Zineb El Rhazoui, one of the surviving Charlie staffers, said that the cover was an act of forgiveness toward the terrorists who murdered her colleagues. Luz, a cartoonist who was late to the editorial meeting that turned into a massacre, illustrated the cover. He’s also expressed frustration with the idea that the tragedy has been conflated with an international and national metaphor for freedom of speech. “We are being made to carry a symbolic responsibility that doesn’t figure in Charlie’s cartoons,” Luz said in an interview published over the weekend. Hackers Claiming Affinity with ISIS Took Over US Central Command’s YouTube and Twitter Accounts: For a brief period of time on Monday, a group called the CyberCaliphate hacked into the social media strategy of the Pentagon’s military oversight unit in the Middle East.
