Seattle University cuts ties with ICE: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement used to be 1 of 800 placements that law students at Seattle U could potentially work an externship at. That’s not the case anymore though, as the Dean announced by email her decision to suspend the externship, citing the federal agency’s “current policies and practices.” But what brought about this decision? A petition of 468 names put together by a third-year student at the school, who had not seen any action taken after formally making a case to the administration. Take note kids, petitions pay off.
How cool is this fog we’ve been getting? But if you catch yourself in a thick fog patch while driving, it can be pretty scary.
Our local atmospheric temperature profiler shows a really sharp temperature inversion (rising with height) extending about 600 feet from the ground. Given this @komonews image and the Space Needle’s height near that. I’d say that’s pretty impressive. #wawx pic.twitter.com/RgwgW0CCTV

Trump Watch; insulting renowned Navy SEAL Commander edition: Who is Trump shit-talking now? Oh just Admiral William H. McRaven, the Navy SEAL commander who oversaw the raid that killed Osama Bin-fucking-Laden. After calling the retired admiral a “Hillary fan,” and “Obama backer,” Trump went on to complain that,
Wouldnโt it have been nice if we got Osama bin Laden a lot sooner than that, wouldnโt it have been nice? You know, living โ think of this โ living in Pakistan, beautifully in Pakistan, in what I guess they considered a nice mansion, I donโt know, Iโve seen nicer. But living in Pakistan right next to the military academy, everybody in Pakistan knew he was there.
A beautiful scene, despite how gross Hollywood is: Some balance has been restored to the universe here. Oh my gosh, this is pure feel-good news for us and I hope it means as much to you too.

Kirkland police apologize for being tool of racist fear: ICYMI, the Seattle Times posted a column last Friday night about a story in which a frozen yogurt store in Kirkland called 911 on a social worker named Byron Ragland, who was there supervising a mother and son outing. So why did they call the cops? Because Ragland happens to be a black man, and this happens to be racist America. So despite Ragland doing nothing wrong, the Kirkland police did the fro-yo shop’s bidding, took Ragland’s info, and made him move along. On Monday, the Kirkland police issued an apology, which you can read here. There is also apparently a protest planned for this morning, which you can read about here.
Sorry about all the red: The Dow dropped 450 points this morning after opening. Unless the market rallies during this session, this drop will have erased all of 2018’s gains. And while things can change throughout the day, since the Dow dropped that initial 450 points on open, it has continued its descent to a 544 point drop. Wasn’t the stock market the one thing anyone had any real faith in for Trump’s presidency?
The PNW got earthquake fever, and the only prescription is more ShakeAlert: ShakeAlert is a system that can warn you how much time you have before the quake has begun. Just recently it detected the 4.1 magnitude quake in the Olympic National Park. The system cannot predict earthquakes, per se, but any amount of warning time to move to a safer spot, even 15 seconds, can be huge. What an amazing alert system, right? But KING5 says, “ShakeAlert is not yet widely available in the Pacific Northwest.”
Don’t get pregnant rats high: A new study out of WSU shows that the offspring of rats who were vaping pot had dumber rat babies than the offspring of just normally dumb rats.
Check out Tutuโs Pantry and the Backpack Brigade: Capitol Hill Seattle Blog has the scoop on two programs that are working hard to keep Seattle kids fed. While there are programs to keep kids fed throughout the week, often that support “dries up” when the weekend rolls around. These programs rely on community support and seem to be doing amazing and necessary work. Check out the link above to learn more or donate, let’s make sure no children in Seattle are going hungry!
Kyle MacLachlan Watch: Kyle apparently wakes up an hour after me and psychically knows he’s subconsciously on my mind and posts something wonderful like this. Kyle, if you’re reading this, please give me a sign. Anything. I’ll know when I see it.
