“8 QFCs are open!” (see above)
Who doesn’t want to find AA batteries, toilet paper and Capt. Crunch under their tree? Also, I understand that frozen pot pies make an excellent stocking stuffer!

  2. @1: I don’t buy that for a second. You’re a male homosexual after all. You had everything prepared weeks ago and all you have to worry about today is ironing the tablecloth for the dining room table and to make sure that all flatware you use is from the same set.

  3. In another bout of epic non-self-awareness, the head of Child Rape, Inc. (ie the pope) attacked oppressors and warmongers.

  4. Pope could have wished for an end to clergy molestation coverups.

And did we miss the Japanese surprise attack the other day?

“Newt and I agreed that the analogy is December 1941,” he writes, comparing the campaign’s failure to acquire the 10,000 signatures necessary to compete in the Virginia primary to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

  5. @9: Not to downplay what molestation victims and their families have gone through, and not to excuse the Pope for refusing to properly address the problem, but I think the plight of the hundreds upon hundreds being massacred in Syria is a little more horrific.

  6. @ Intern: You should attach the video “White Wine in the Sun” by Tim Minchin. It’s a good song for the holiday – even if it can make one tear up a bit.

Hope all of you are either ‘drinking white wine in the sun” or have people who are and thinking of you.

  7. My favorite candy cane.

Did anyone else catch Darlene Love singing “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on Letterman? I love seeing her do this every year but thought this year’s version was especially great because Paul Schaeffer really nailed Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound. In case you didn’t see it, here it is. And here’s today’s CBS Sunday Morning piece on Ms. Love, a national treasure.

  8. @10:
I don’t think I want to measure what’s worse; trying to quantify suffering gets us in a Kodos the Executioner situation. Peace in Syria is certainly more immediate. But my point, which certainly isn’t explicit, is that the Pope could actually do something about the cover-ups right this moment, whereas expressing a wish for peace seems like an easy out for him that lets him sound like a good guy without having to meet any real expectation of trying to achieve anything.

  9. @ 5 I can sort of see the reason for this, look if they are adults in college and decide to drink before 21 fine, but when they are teens at home its different.
