Alleged Hate Crime in Spokane: And outside of a gay bar, too. Pro tip: if you want to commit a hate crime and don’t want it to be charged as such, you probably shouldn’t allegedly stop assaulting the man, allegedly ask if he’s gay, and allegedly keep beating him up.

GOP Candidates Decline Chance to Mormon Bash: When asked whether he thought the Mormon church was a cult, Herman Cain, former Pizza Boss, replied he’s trying to occupy the Presidency, and not “theologian-in-chief”.

Alabama Hates Families: But only when they decide to peacefully occupy trailer parks, accept non-existent legal protections, and work for minimum wage.

Steve Jobs Isn’t Going Away: Because he’s left plans for four years of Apple products. With liquid assets of over $80 billion, it’s highly likely that Apple will occupy another industry through an 11-figure acquisition.

Food Porn: The New York Times has a long piece about food commercials—highly worth checking out, if a little gluttonous.

Nationalism: Italy is still upset about Amanda Knox’s now-unoccupied jail cell, according to a Seattle Times reporter stationed in Italy. I want to switch newspapers.

  1. I am not condoning violence, or hate crimes, so let’s get that out of the way first. But I have said it over and over. When gay men are out at night, do not let yourselves be provoked into saying or doing anything. Just get away from the situation and call the police. Please. The bad guys already know you’re outnumbered and don’t stand a chance. They are cowards. That’s why they are provoking you.

  2. “U District Man Fined $2000 for Graffiti on His Property: Doesn’t that sound a little nuts?”

Meanwhile there are still a scribble of two story high letters on the crossroads building on broadway.

  3. I suppose we’ll be seeing higher food prices as rouge draconian immigration laws send undocumented migrant workers hiding.

  4. Why do libertarians buy property in a city? if you want to do whatever the fuck you want with your property, buy in Wyoming. That’s what it’s there for.

Oh but you want to be in the city for access to all those customers for your business. Without having to comply with city code? Ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. Live as an individualist, or live with other people. One or the other. Make up your mind…

  5. @7: Perhaps. But I think when the big news story is being serviced with regular slog posts — practicality trumps consistency.

  6. @6

Yeah, it’s like if the city didn’t catch that one guy speeding one day, then that means I get to speed all I want. Or when they won’t let me drop trou and take a big dump on the sidewalk, “This comes perilously close to the government saying, ‘We get to tell you what color to paint your house. We tell you how to dress, what to do.'”

Riiiiight. Nice try, dude. The real crime is the loophole that lets Tubs go on like that. This is Seattle, not Burning Man, thank god.

  7. And of course, the government already tells us what to dress–try walking out without something covering your gentials, and they’ll fine you and probably throw you in jail to boot. Why? Because people just don’t want to look at your junk in public.

  8. “It didn’t start as a hate crime, but it escalated into a hate crime.”

How does a crime escalate into a hate crime? The whole theory of a hate crime is that the crime is targeted against not just the direct victim(s) but an entire demographic. If the guy was just beating him up because he kicked his car (justifiably or not), then that’s not a hate crime, even if in the process of beating him up he hurled some gay slurs at him.
