  1. Haven’t we reached the point, at least in the US, where the people that smoke know and accept the dangers. Seems we’ve reduced it down to only the people who making a conscious choice to do it.

    We’ve gotten it out of public places so it no longer affects non-smokers all the much and there are a plethora of options for quitting.

    I guess I am not sure why I should give a fuck about it anymore.

    Smokers are jokers anyways.

    The tone here seems to imply that King County SWAT is just the latest example of trigger-happy, power-trippin’ cops being quick to shoot in situations that don’t call for lethal force.  Am I misreading?

    In any event, the linked article paints a very different picture:

    An armed man who was threatening to explode a bomb in a Covington neighborhood was shot dead by a SWAT team officer after the man pointed a high-powered rifle at a police helicopter, officials said.

    Emphasis mine.  The rest of the article is consistent with the lede.

    Btw the Obamas hada fun trip to Manhattan last night. That’s an example of a traffic stoppage that didn’t piss people off. People were awed and were clapping when they closed off sixth ave. to go from the West Village to midtown.

    OK, I’m hoping once, just once, they take the subway. But nonetheless I am really glad to have a normal guy as president who does things like eat out and see a play instead of going to some arid ranch in the middle of nothing and sit on a concrete slab looking at nothing and then going to cut brushes. That’s not very cultural or interesting.

  4. Cutting people off the state insurance plan, aside from being unjust and putting most of the hurt on poor people, is going to end up costing the state more money overall. It has been shown again and again that preventative care is cheaper than emergency care.

    Thanks for giving poor people the shaft again, state legislature. Go fuck yourselves sideways.

  5. I work with a lot of poverty-line idiots that smoke. I’d bet money a good 60-70% of the people smoke there, and they do so because they’re too fucking lazy to quit. You should see some of the nasty, paper-bag-skinned Wendy’s-subsisting motherfuckers I work with. God, Ohio has ugly motherfucking people.
