  1. I’ve been using my new Chase Rewards card for every purchase hoping to rack up points (former Wamu customer) and strangely enough, in a few months I now have 9000 of them.

The really good stuff requires about 30,000 which I could continue to pursue, but at the 10000 level you can get some pretty spiffy gift cards from BestBuy and other retail outlets that are relevant to my lifestyle.

  2. ALso News: Democratic groups continued today to fail to do any organizing. No grass roots events were scheduled, planned or even talked about in liberal cities such as Seattle, Washington.
“We prefer to watch futebol, and mock teabaggers,” said one former Obamatron who’d spent 2229290290209 hours ensuring the dastardly Clinton option was not pursued last year.

The “teabaggers” reference was to an item noting that the right wing is building grass roots support with a communications network, funding, community organizing, concise talking points, and their typical seizure of traditional American symbols such as the flag, liberty, and and patriotism.

“Damn, those liberals can’t even be bothered to push for their own reform agenda,” said one of them. “Yup,” commented the ruling class. “We’ve been hornswaggling the toolish working class for a few centures now. In Europe they figured out how to fight us to a standstill, but here in America they just don’t seem to realize it’s a fight.”

“They just keep talking about it like it’s a policy debate,” he chortled. “Of course, the moment we got them to start agreeing government is the problem, not the answer, that pushed them into a vague public option stance that no one can explain. If the public option competes well, it drives people to government so it is socialism anyway. So now we’ve even got Obama saying the public option won’t compete much at all!”

“This begs the question,” he added in a singularly correct use of the phrase. “If the public option won’t drive the private insurance companies out of business, what’s it for?”

Asked to comment, the entire liberal sector did not return any calls.

  3. PC, when the Dems can’t even agree among themselves as to what their agenda is, how do you expect them to sell it to anyone else?

  4. By “Dems” do you mean Obama ?

The guy who made millions his delirious fans, because he stood for clear hope and change — in sharp contrast to that hopeless triangulating, weasly corporation loving Hillary?

The one who said he was on her left?

The same one who now sitting down with insurers and big pharma and their lackey Baucus, unable to tell us whether or not he’s promised that the public option will be allowed to actually negotiate lower prices and get subsidies from taxing the rich? The one who’s making the public option palatable to insurers, and keeping its outlines a chimera, a mere outline of a smile representing the space where “hope” and “change” used to be?

Well, yes, with those contradictions you can’t really expect him to be able to sell it.

How, rare … seeing the Hegelian process work itself out — all inside one person.

I’m sure Charles can explain it all.

  5. Liberals want to get all “Evil Conspiracy” over a few nutjobs at townhalls but the real problem is that the President’s 13 million Organizing for America grass-roots network won’t get it’s FatAsses up off the couch to do anything. So kiss the Public Option goodbye.

  6. Kathleen Sebelius (HHS Secretary) signalled today (Sunday) that the administration is willing to settle for co-ops in place of a true public option. So even the few Congress-critters in a position to push for something better (and perhaps motivated by conscience to do so) have just been neutralized.

    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story…

Co-ops will not reduce costs significantly, nor slow the rate of increase much. And they are likely to still leave millions without coverage (those who can’t afford ~$500+/month for individual policies or ~$1500+/month for family plans).

  7. I confess, I’m a little disappointed at how easy Obama caved. All it took was a little bitchslapping. I’m afraid everything we said about him during the campaign may be true.

    Yes indeed.
You know, it’s a pity we couldn’t have settled Healthcare reform on a poker game. … It’s hard to be strict with a man who loses so pleasantly.

  9. Any news about the NATIONAL KISS-IN Saturday??

This from Creative Loafing in Atlanta:

“LGBT community stages MASSIVE kiss at Piedmont Park Saturday

August 14, 2009 at 4:47 pm by Patrick Saunders in News
The location is set, permits have been secured and lips are being puckered as upwards of 1,000 participants are expected to gather Saturday at 2 p.m. in front of the visitorโ€™s center at Piedmont Park to take part in the Great Nationwide Kiss-In.
Atlanta is one of over 50 cities across the country that will simultaneously engage Saturday in lip-locking โ€” a grassroots-led response to incidents in Salt Lake City and El Paso where gay couples were arrested or kicked out of restaurants for sharing a brief kiss.”

    How many showed up?
    From the AP:

    August 15, 2009
“ATLANTA (AP) About 50 people, mostly gay and lesbian couples, gathered at Piedmont Park in downtown Atlanta to protest the recent arrests of gays kissing in Utah and Texas.
The couples kissed Saturday for about five minutes. The event comes after gay couples in Salt Lake City, San Antonio and El Paso were arrested, cited for trespassing or harrassed by police for publicly kissing.”

“Twenty-two people, many of them strangers to one another, gathered under the scorching sun on Washington’s National Mall to participate in the national smooch. They were gay and straight, couples and singles of all ages, with placards that read ”Equal Opportunity Kisser” and ”A Kiss is a Not a Crime.”
”This is America. A kiss on the cheek is OK,” said Ian Thomas, 26, of Leesburg, Va., who organized the Washington Kiss-In. ”It’s got to be OK. If not, we’re in serious trouble.”

“50 people gathered in the plaza surrounding Cloud Gate during what seemed as one of the hottest days of the year with one thing on their minds – kissing!
Saturday afternoon marked the Great Nationwide Kiss-In where LGBT couples from around the country gathered at local public venues to send a message that “Kissing is Good” after three gay couples have recently been arrested for kissing in public.
The local ‘Kiss-in’ was organized by Join the Impact Chicago.

The Salt Lake individual was not arrested “for sharing a brief kiss”.
He was arrested for assaulting a security guard.
