Reforming Egypt: Long outlawed Muslim Brotherhood at table with Egypt Vice President Omar Suleiman. It’s a positive sign that opposition groups are willing to work towards stabilizing the country, and also a sign that new regime will have a stronger Islamic presence. Turkey may show the way to transition from a secular dictatorship to an Islam-friendly democracy that also balances a developing economy.
Of course, itโs always about you: US unable to maintain a fence-sitting position, withdraws support for Mubarak, risks offending allies in non-democratic (and potentially explosive) Jordan, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
Be extremely careful what you wish for: In Seattle, allies of the Egypt opposition rally at Westlake calling for the ousting of President Mubarak. One protester wants the US to โdo the same thing we did with Saddam Hussein.โ
Since when did Arlington have such strict rules about handling remains? Hmong ally to the US buried in Fresno. Not Arlington, as family hoped.
One gov’t backed insurance program the Tea Party seems okay with: Farmers’ false insurance claims costing tax payers millions. Feds use satellite photos of farm lands to identify culprits.
A long and dangerous journey ending in Southern Texas: Texas border patrol โbaffledโ by surge of illegal immigrants from India. The mostly Sikh group claims persecution at home as reason for fleeing, via Mexico, to the US. Immigrant smuggling pipeline highlights gaps in US anti-terror policies.
Companies want a piece of the gray pie: Some businesses are designing innovative products for the over 60s. This doesn’t affect the fact that 99.9% of all goods and services will still be marketed to boys under 18.
A fair warning to today’s Super Bowl partiers: You should expect heavy police presence targeting post-game DUIs on Seattle streets.
When in doubt, call a taxi tonight. Just make sure itโs not this one: Cab driver drops off disoriented brain surgery patient in unfamiliar Puyallup neighborhood on rainy winter night. Patient wearing only hospital gown and socks was helped home by strangers.
The world suddenly becomes a whole lot less rad: Screen vixen Tura Satana passes away at 75. Known for exploitation flicks like Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Satana defined the tough-as-nails femme fatale of the 1960s and 70s that paved the way for sexy action stars like Pam Grier, Brigitte Nielsen, Sybil Danning and Famke Janssen. Varla, you will be missed.

I did convince the UWMC to let me go on my own after surgery once, and I was fine. But I wasn’t in a hospital gown and slippers.
Aww. Sad.
I actually met Tura Satana at an event a few years ago. She was still badass and still had gigantic tits (still defying gravity somehow at age 70-ish). She was a little crazy, and I loved her.
FYI, News Intern Ryan:

There has always been an eligibility requirement to be interred at Arlington. And there is no eligibility for “allies”.
Sad news on the awesome Turla’s passing. She was a tough girl who could take care of herself generations before Buffy.
If his quote about Saddam Hussein is accurate, UW professor Mohmed “Ultimatum” El-Sharkawi is a moron.
It’s really no surprise we have such a bad reputation on the Arab street. We side with their oppressors in the name of a dubious security. Things have changed. And as usual Republican’ts like Dick Cheney, who’s busy praising Mubarak, are always the last to wake up. They should have real democracy. Isn’t that one of America’s values the Reps are always squaking about?
Half of America must have rubbed one out for Tura in the 60s and 70s. She’ll be missed by many a hand.
@8 It works in Turkey. I know Israel doesn’t like it, but who gives a fuck what Israel wants? Listening to Israel got us into this mess.
@8
They’re mad at their dictator and his following. You don’t become a dictator by baking pies or allowing personal freedoms.
Israel is a weight, a hinderance and an obstacle. It’s no ally. If it was an ally they would have made a lasting peace by now.
Vince, if our own country America was an ally to anyone in the world, we wouldn’t still be occupying Afghanistan and Iraq. That would contribute to a lasting peace.
Says the naive bus rider: A transit update would’ve been kind of nice.
http://metro.kingcounty.gov/up/scvchange…
“Major changes to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Avenue bus service in downtown Seattle.”
What’s the link between the Tea Party and farm insurance fraud?
