It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year and only been a year: Since Trump was elected President of the United States. I don’t know about you but I still shudder when I have to type, or God forbid say, “President Trump.” It’s felt like the longest year of my life and I feel like after one year with Trump at the helm nothing can surprise me anymore. The fact that he made it a year, especially with the year that he had, is appalling. That’s why this weekend I’m going to (and you should also) try to reignite the last embers of life you have left inside and join in a weekend of resistance.

The Womxn’s March 2.0 is tomorrow: Get those pink pussy hats popping and get to Cal Anderson Park by 10:00 a.m. Or, if it’s anything like last year, get there a heck of a lot earlier if you want some space to move around. I expect to see femmes out in force (allies welcome, too of course) as we put this year of Trumpian horror behind us and look toward the female-led future.

There’s also a huge follow-up event on Sunday: Womxn Act on Seattle is taking place at various locations across the city. Take part in a “citywide day of learning, supporting, sharing, and acting on behalf of nonprofit organizations, grassroots and social justice groups.” Find more details here.

Bird-brained teens arrested trying to hunt eagles: The four juveniles were found out when a sheriff’s deputy found a rifle in their car. After further inquiry (and discovering none of them had a driver’s license), the deputy discovered a dead doe carcass in the area, with three more nearby. The kids admitted they killed the deer in an attempt to hunt eagles.

New blood test can detect cancer: Or at least that’s what the Johns Hopkins University team found in its preliminary stages. The experimental test detected 70 percent of eight common types of cancer in 1,005 patients. It can detect cancer of the breast, colon and lung and five other kinds that don’t have screening tests for people at average risk: ovarian, liver, stomach, pancreatic and esophageal. Now, they’ll need to validate the test in a much larger study.

Remember how the Legislature is being sued in a public records lawsuit? No? Well, the Legislature claimed they qualified for exemptions to withhold documents. In September, 10 news organizations filed a legal challenge to that exemption. Now, without Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s representation, the Legislature has spent $56,000 of taxpayer money in private legal fees.

I wasn’t kidding about the swells yesterday: 30-foot waves battered the Washington coast yesterday. People were swept off their feet by monster waves at Damon Point in Ocean Shores. Everyone was okay there but the same can’t be said for an Oregon man at Depoe Bay. He hasn’t been found and he presumed to be dead by Oregon police.

The monster swells continue: They’re gnarly, brah. I’m sorry that was a rough joke. Rough like this surf, am I right?

The hunt for a new police chief is underway: Mayor Durkan’s most important personnel decision will be choosing the new leader of the SPD. Recruiter Gary Peterson, a former police officer, has been selected to find candidates. He already knows one, however. Prospective candidate and interim SPD chief, Carmen Best is probably hoping Peterson’s familiarity with her will help her bid for chief. Best says it’s hard being an internal candidate because her time as interim chief is judged as an extended interview.

Earlier this month Florida was freezing: And it’s gotten colder. It’s so cold you can see steam rising off the water. The region is understandably in a panic. So, it seems, is their wildlife:

The President and the Pornstar: One of the most recent Trump scandals is like the porn version of “The Prince and the Pauper.” The SparkNotes version is that Trump paid an adult film star, Stormy Daniels, $130,000 of hush money in 2016 to stay quiet of a relationship they allegedly had in 2006 just four months after his son, Barron, was born. Now, an interview from 2011 (before she signed an NDA) is coming out, and boy, does she have a lot to say.

According to Stormy Daniels, Trump hates sharks: He’s obsessed with them because he’s terrified of them. He watches Shark Week religiously. I’m glad to see someone still does. Shark Week was so early 2000s. Before you fight me, watch Blue Planet II and then tell we’ll talk.

Stormy Daniels also said Trump told her she reminded him of Ivanka: That’s right, his daughter. Here’s a Colbert clip that’s probably more than you’ve ever wanted to start your day with:

Republicans are blaming Democrats for the government shutdown: It seems holding public office is the key to becoming morally bankrupt. Paul Ryan, nobly, is letting for the impending shutdown all the blame fall on the Democrat’s shoulders.

Medical-scope may have caused superbug outbreak: A Seattle man, Richard Bigler, died in 2013 after treatment with one of Olympus Corp.’s medical-scopes. The trial for his wrongful death found Olympus Corp. Not guilty. Now, previously undisclosed emails reveal proof of a faulty design. The emails were from 2008. The judge has ordered a new trial for Bigler’s case.

Traffic out there is slow: 29 minutes to Seattle from Lynnwood. 49 minutes to Bellevue from Southcenter. Check the heavy spots this morning. But, I guarantee, it’s moving at a faster pace than my Comcast internet. At my time of writing this sentence it is 7:27 a.m. My Internet has gone out three times in the last hour. I hate Comcast. Save net neutrality.

It’s Friday and I will leave you with the most fun fact I learned this week: In the time it took scientists to discover Pluto (1930), let it have planet status for 76 years, then take it away (2006), say it might be a planet then change their minds again (2017), Pluto never completed a full orbit around the Sun. A Pluto year is 248.09 Earth years. That means one Pluto year ago, in 1770, the American Revolution had not begun.
