We were curious—really curious—as to what might happen after fisheries biologist Fred Felleman and former Normandy Park city council member Marion Yoshino made it through the primaries. Both pretty much ran on environmental and transparency platforms, both were considered underdogs in the race, and both unexpectedly beat the maritime industry and Alaska Airlines’ favored candidate. Quelle surprise! So who would Big Maritime and Big Airline back in the general election? Welp, Alaska Airlines ended up donating $1,000 to Yoshino’s campaign, and now Yoshino has pulled back—very far back—from her original platform. When asked in August why she thought she won the primary, Yoshino wrote that it was because people recognized that “CLIMATE CHANGE MATTERS.” But by late September, Yoshino was telling conservative radio host John Carlson that the Shell controversy had scared business away from the port.
