Socialist Kshama Sawant won 52 percent of the primary vote and she’s raised more money—tons from small donors—than any other candidate for city council. So trolls can shut the fuck up now about Sawant being some fringe fluke. Sawant does a better job of loudly articulating the problems facing Seattle’s low-wage, formerly-middle class, and hanging-on-to-the-middle-class-by-their-fingernails workers than anyone else in city government, period. Even if you’re not on board with her long-term vision for a socialist paradise spreading outward from Seattle, you can still get behind the righteous shit she talks about the corporate influence in our politics, the flaws in our police-accountability system, and the need for elected officials to focus their work on the problems of average citizens—not just on the powerful and wealthy few who already have access to the corridors of power.
Yeah, Sawant can be uncompromising with her rhetoric, and her take-no-prisoners style has caused establishment panties to permanently bunch. So what?
