Activists from Westboro Baptist Church failed to appear at their scheduled 10:15 a.m. demonstration at the funeral of Gloria Leonidas, who was fatally shot outside of Town Hall last week. Instead, dozens of somber counter-demonstrators from various UCC congregations stood around but then dispersed when it was clear the religious crazies weren’t going to show their faces. This is something Westboro has done before, and will do again—they whip folks into a frenzy, get the attention they want, and don’t follow through. We wrote about this tactic on Monday and asked for people not to give them the attention they wanted. But Westboro will be back, and this instance goes to show that it’s best not give them the conflict they’re looking for.
