Trump Endorsed Cuomo: “You really have no choice,” Trump says. New Yorkers do, actually, and it seems pretty likely that more of them will select Zohran Mamdani as their mayor.

I hope you will select Katie Wilson as yours. Please don’t make us endure another four years of Bruce Harrell, a man who thinks being the mayor is standing at a podium and announcing something. His case for mayor is basically: I should be mayor. He may be from here, and he may have a compelling personal story, but God, this guy SUCKS. Wilson may not be very charismatic, but she actually wants this city to be a better place. We have other endorsements, which you can read here. Turnout is never great, but it’s also not great this year.

PSA: Seriously, don’t mail your ballot today. Due to new USPS postmarking rules, it probably won’t be counted, officials say. Go to a drop box instead. Take someone cute with you. Make a date of it. Then, make sweet love to celebrate the democratic process.

Former VP Dick Cheney Dead: The Machiavellian warhawk died from a combination of pneumonia, cardiac disease, and vascular disease. He was 84. Cheney backed the Iraq war, even when the facts and the people were not with him. He defended the surveillance state he helped set up after 9/11. He was never President, but nearly had the power of one. Here’s a sendoff song:

More Election Stuff: The Urbanist wrote about six mayoral and city council elections outside Seattle that could signal broader trends in the region (friends don’t let friends vote for Mark Mullet as Mayor of Issaquah).

Weather: It’ll be partly sunny, with a high near 56. There’s a slight chance of rain between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

He’s got a GREAT ASS record, so naturally, Mariner Cal Raleigh is finalist for MVP of the American League. Baseball is more Nathalie’s department than mine, but The Seattle Times writes that Raleigh’s season may never be replicated by another catcher. He led the MLB in homers and the American League in RBIs. He broke Mickey Mantle’s record for most homers by a switch-hitter in one season. I have only one thing to say to Cal and his teammates this year.

ICE: Washingtonians have reported that State Troopers asking for immigration documents during traffic stops, but the troopers have no record of that happening—which means they’re probably unmarked ICE officers. So state officials have these recommendations: if you’re being pulled over by an unmarked law enforcement vehicle, turn on your hazard lights and drive to a public area (they recommend the nearest fire or police station). If you can’t figure out whether or not they’re actually law enforcement, call 911. But for an Issaquah community that’s been rocked by these arrests recently, none of these options feel safe. KUOW has more.

Crumbs: The federal government will only pay partial SNAP benefits this month, which is great news for the tens of millions of Americans who were planning on only partially eating this month. It’s unclear when these benefits are going out, but it could take weeks. Republican Senate Majority whip John Barrasso showed his bare-ass-o when he shot down the Democrats attempt to fully fund SNAP with unused revenue from tariffs this month.

He Doesn’t Even Go Here: It’s really, really rich that a Republican party that’s going around claiming, without evidence, that Joe Biden didn’t know what pardons he was signing with autopen, is led by a man who just pardoned Changpeng Zhao, the cryptocurrency billionaire and Binance co-founder he apparently didn’t know. President Donald Trump told 60 Minutes that he heard it was a “Biden witch hunt.” It was not. Zhao committed financial crimes and, as a result, paid the biggest corporate penalties in the history of this country, according to former US Attorney General Merrick Garland. The pardon allows Zhao to run financial ventures again. The crypto crazy Trump is probably lying for his financial benefit, but it’s still rich, ya know?

Bleak: Trump is threatening military action in Nigeria. The White House said he’s been tracking this for some time. But two sources familiar with the matter told CNN that he got the idea from a Fox News story on Friday about Islamic groups allegedly targeting the country’s Christians (the killing is not limited to Christians—radical Islamic groups are killing Muslims, too). Within an hour, he was posting. Additionally, Trump threatened to pull aid to Nigeria. And in this administration, posting can soon enough become policy.

On Posting: Trump threatened to disobey the federal court order that would make the government pay any SNAP benefits. It’s unclear what will actually happen, but it’s definitely not good.

Play a Funeral March with Microwave Beeps: Duane Roberts, billionaire inventor of the frozen burrito, died in his sleep at 88.

See a Movie: Charles has a nose for a good documentary, like this dreamlike one about the 1999 WTO protests. Read all about it.

The Pokemon Police: Walmart is joining the war on scalpers on the side of children and adult nerds by limiting Pokemon card buyers to “five packs and/or boxes” “per visit.”

I’m in a dour mood. This song always does the trick.

  2. Viv, there really are Christians being slaughtered in the Congo and Nigeria on a deliberate and mass scale. A little digging on your part (see below) would have set clarified this for you but you instead belittle it by using “alleged” and saying there are Muslims being killed in the mix. Yes you’re poo pooing genocide just like some said the Gaza wasn’t a genocide. What goes around comes around I suppose.

There is always more info at your fingertips:

There is substantial evidence from multiple international human rights organizations, watchdog groups, and government reports indicating that Christians in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are facing severe, targeted violence, including killings that amount to slaughter on a large scale. This persecution is primarily driven by Islamist militant groups, such as Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria, and the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF, an ISIS affiliate) in the DRC. While both countries experience broader conflicts involving ethnic, resource, and security issues that affect Muslims as well, reports consistently highlight the disproportionate targeting of Christian communities, clergy, and villages. These incidents have escalated in 2024–2025, leading to thousands of deaths, abductions, and displacements.

  3. I’ll follow your casket

And I’ll watch while you’re lowered

    Down to your deathbed

And I’ll stand over your grave

‘Til I’m sure that you’re dead

    Fuck that Dick.

  4. 6 “There is substantial evidence from multiple international human rights organizations” = “multiple human rights organizations allege.” You won’t find any credible media reporting on this topic that doesn’t frame christian genocide as an allegation because christians are not the only people being killed and the motives behind the killings are in dispute.

  5. @9: Listen, if an activist group says it’s a genocide, then it’s automatically a genocide! 😜 Don’t give me any of this wishy-washy “motives behind the killings” nonsense, mister! 😜

  6. @11~seen it.

  7. So you all want an unqualified white davior to take the spot of a highly capable person of color in a position of power?? Wtf is wrong with all of you? Why isn’t her spouse working when they have a kid?? More importantly, she can’t even budget for her own family! Is she going to ask her parents to bail out Seattle, too?

  8. 18, lol. Cute out, as you might say.

By credible i mean a media outlet that follows standard operating procedures for their industry, such as not reporting allegations as definitively true until they have been confirmed. This is most media outlets, probably even fox news, but if the president doesn’t understand this minor but extremely important detail i wouldn’t expect any more from a simpleton like you who doesn’t even understand your own counter-example doesn’t support your argument.

Feel free to google the story and look for any media outlet, anyone at all, who reports as an established fact that there is a christian genocide happening in nigeria. That is the criteria for deciding whether a media outlet is credible or not, at least for the purposes of this story, because it means they are doing their job correctly.

  9. @21: But why launder the genocide determination through a media outlet in the first place? Why not just look at the object facts in Nigeria, and then compare those facts against an accepted definition of genocide?

It’s weird to me that your process would go something like, “We can’t call it a genocide until a credible media outlet informs us that it is.” Like, why abdicate that determination to the media? Isn’t it something you can and should figure out on your own? 😂 And even if it’s not something you can figure out on your own, wouldn’t you want some authority other than the media to be the ones to figure it out for you? Like, why not the International Court of Justice? Or the US State Department? Or really almost any other authority! Why specifically the media? It’s just a really weird position to take. 😅

But even if we accept your notion of media as the arbiters of genocide, you’re still doing it wrong! 😆

In your words, “Feel free to google the story and look for any media outlet, anyone at all, who reports as an established fact that there is a christian genocide happening in nigeria. That is the criteria for deciding whether a media outlet is credible or not.”

Under those criteria, there can never be a determination of genocide by a “credible media outlet,” because as soon as any particular media outlets determines there’s a genocide, that media outlet ceases to be credible anymore! It’s heads I win, tails you lose! 🤪

There are a small number of smart ways and a large number of stupid ways to think about important questions like genocide, and yours is one of the stupid ways. 🤪

  10. Merriam-Webster definition of genocide: “the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group”. There’s no caveat about conforming to a specific bureaucratic definition of “genocide” – it’s a word in common parlance, and common parlance dictates what the “meaning” of a word is, not politicos with a vested interest in maintaining the Zionist state at all costs. Welcome to the world of linguistic science!😆😆😆😆😆😆

And seriously, has there been any election in the past thirty years in which major party candidate supporters haven’t accused independent candidates and voters of being secretly racist, in league with the Russians, &c.? I guess some people just never learn! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  11. @29

  12. @27: Well if “common parlance” is your source for definitions, then genocide simply means “anything Israel does that I don’t like!” 😂😂😂

Oops did I say Israel? Sorry I didn’t mean to offend you. I meant to say, “the Zionist state.” 😘

  13. No, my source of definitions is linguistic science. You can always take Linguistics 101 at the U if you don’t believe me – or if you can handle the academic rigor (not likely 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣). Common parlance dictates meaning – “irregardless” is a real word now because of this principle. Linguistic science isn’t “fair” – it’s empirical.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Last time I checked, Israel was impossible to exist without Zionism, according to you. So you can go ahead and use the terms interchangeably for all I care – it’s not like it’s difficult to get your drift.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  16. @33: But who was arguing with you over the definition of the term genocide? The debate here was how best to know whether the situations in Nigeria, Congo, or Gaza meet the definition, not the lexical semantics of the definition itself. 😆 You’ve gotten yourself all hot and sweaty just from shadow-boxing! 😂

  17. You were arguing. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 “You’ve gotten yourself all hot & sweaty” – and now you’re projecting. This just isn’t your day, Zionist shill.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  18. Like all of your comments, they exist full-blown in The Stranger comment section, quite apart from any of my cognitions. Besides, why assume that I’m hostile to you? I thought my comment showed real pity. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  19. MEANWHILE, IN SEATTLE, ignored by Slog AM (deliberately, not “progressive”) and everyone constantly arguing about Israel:

Seattle police ask for help ID’ing robber who attacked, bit off finger of elderly woman

    November 3, 2025

SEATTLE — Seattle police are urgently seeking the public’s help identifying a man involved in the brutal robbery and assault of an 88-year-old woman in the Rainier Beach neighborhood.

The attack happened on Oct. 13, when the suspect attacked the elderly woman outside her home in the 9900 block of 64th Avenue South.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE | Thief robs, violently beats elderly woman before eluding Seattle police

The woman was on her back porch cleaning household items when the suspect approached and demanded her belongings. After she refused, the suspect violently assaulted her and dragged her into her garage, where the attack continued.

During the assault, the suspect robbed the victim of her jewelry before biting off her finger.

    …

OH? SURELY THERE IS A “DESCRIPTION” OF THIS VIOLENT AT-LARGE SUSPECT, RIGHT???

“The SPD has released several surveillance photos of the man, who is described as being in his 30s.” = NOT WHITE

By lying, she was trying to protect herself from her father’s rage and abuse, even though it meant condemning Tom Robinson to a death sentence.”

  23. @10: No, but most people would consider not killing people for the religious beliefs and keeping kids away from “gender affirming” sterilization, removal or body parts, and medicalization is a good thing.

Such are the silver linings of the Trump administration.

  24. @46 (and re 21) I could google anything. All I requested was an article, oh maybe from The Atlantic or The Nation maybe, or whatever, that will set me straight about Christians being persecuted in the Congo or in Nigeria along the lines that its been exaggerated or whatever.

But I guess you’re stuck if you can’t find anything.

  25. 47, What is this gibberish? You accused vivian of throwing shade at christians by saying the genocide was “alleged” because there are reports of other religious groups being killed, too. Doesn’t mean it’s not an atrocity, doesn’t mean there aren’t christians being treated poorly in that part of the world, only that the correct way to report this specific story is to say genocide is “alleged” because the charges are widely disputed.
