For the rats of Cal Anderson, summertime means night fights. They sleep in the bushes during the day, but once the sun goes down they get loose on the extra beer lying around and tear each other to pieces in the common spaces. They like to brawl up on that molehill near the fountain because they like the attention. In the moonlight, it’s almost beautiful. But it’s not. It’s vicious. Nobody wins. It’s the heat that does it to them, so if you want to stop the violence you’re going to have to bring (1) chilled cheese or (2) petty cash. They make fans out of the dollar bills. Calms them down.
