Our arts critics have already recommended 31 awesome things to do this week, but there are lots more events happening. To save some of the out-of-the-box ones from slipping through the cracks, we’ve got the (non-denominational but still pretty heavily Christmas-themed) highlights here—from an improvised version of A Christmas Carol to a New Year’s-themed show featuring a performer named Butt Kapinski, and all the way to yet another opportunity to see a big fat bearded man in red conquering space invaders.

The human body is fascinating. But more importantly, it is disgusting. This exhibit will undoubtedly prove the second fact and ideally prove the first as well, albeit with most effectiveness when viewed by fourth graders who like playing with gross, slimy things. (Through Jan 3)

Hard-boiled detective Nick Holiday investigates some strange things taking place in Christmastown. (Through Thursday)

4. The Totally Christmas Sing Along
Central Cinema hosts one of their signature sing-alongs, this time featuring over 25 Christmas-themed music videos.
5. A(n Improvised) Christmas Carol
You may think you know the story of A Christmas Carol, but you have no idea. (Through Sun)
6. Test Apes
Experimental punk rockers Test Apes headline at El Corazon.
7. Baby Ketten Karaoke
The best karaoke ’round returns to Substation.

8. Misfits Christmas Eve
Seasonal spirits, holiday films, new wines, and a cozy fire are all promised at this Christmas Eve soirée.

9. The Toxic Avenger Musical
The Toxic Avenger is about a mutant freak superhero who has a big, big heart. He’s out to save New Jersey from its pollution and end global warming.

Gluten-free beer fans, now you not only have your own brewery, but also your own gluten-free holiday gift exchange.
11. Twisted Flicks: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
Improvisers re-dub cheesy “B” movies (in this case, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians), according to audience suggestions.
12. Butt Kapinski: And a Very Satanic New Year!
Butt Kapinski, created by comedy artist Deanna Fleysher, is the award-winning tale of an “interactive ‘clown noir’ private eye who ropes the entire audience into the mystery.” (Through Sunday)
13. Garlic Man & Chikn
Olympia electronic/R&B/rap/comedy duo Garlic Man & Chikn craft a particularly weird and catchy brand of queer pop, sort of a cross between THEESatisfaction and Salt-N-Pepa.
14. Smilin’ Scandinavians
The Smilin’ Scandinavians are “well known for their mix of Midwestern polka, Scaninavian folk, traditional country western, Dixieland and swing,” apparently.
