You can see them all on our Things To Do calendar, but, for a taste of some of the funky / strange / offbeat / extraordinary things you might not know about otherwise (a “musical drag queer witch artist” or free Harry Potter trivia, anyone?), read on.
TUESDAY
1. Capitol Hill 2
Northwest Film Forum screens the entire (uncut!) second season of Capitol Hill with Jinkx Monsoon, the star that Christopher Frizzelle called “brain-explodingly brilliant.” Created by Wes Hurley, presented by BenDeLaCreme, and featuring the great Robbie Turner, Jason Carter, Waxie Moon, and Jonathan Crimeni.
2. Breezy Manner and Company
Noted purveyors of strange Breezy Manner headline at Chop Suey.
3. Abstractions: The Films of Jon Behrens
Seattle-based filmmaker Jon Behrens and EXcinema present this screening of Behrens’ short films from the 1980s to today.
4. Soup and Cinema: Children of Nature
In January, the Nordic Heritage Museum presents Friðrik Þór Friðriksson’s Children of Nature, a film about aging, travel, and finding your place.
5. The Seattle 10
MOHAI and GeekWire present this pop-up exhibit highlighting ten Seattle startups that have made a serious impact. The businesses then “reproduce their ideas on massive napkins”—find out exactly what they mean by stopping by MOHAI.
6. Lady Krishna: SHE BLEEDS FOR ME! Menstruation Menopause
Lady Krishna writes, “You want feminism? I’ll show you feminism.” This show features 60 canvases adorned with the natural red paint of 30 menstruating collaborators, in a long tradition of Krishna’s artistic depictions of womanhood, community, connection, and blood. Plus, catch the closing gala party with Lady Krishna’s Peppermint Lounge on Thursday.

7. The Children of Fatima
“Look, I’ll be straight with you: I have no idea what the fuck this is going to be, but I know an adventure when I see one. This particular journey promises an appearance by Vinsantos, a musical drag queer witch artist.” -Matt Baume
8. Skydottir Epic Cookies 5th Birthday
Cookie Couture will be your MC and DJ, with tunes from local heavies Skelator and co.

THURSDAY
10. Seattle AntiFreeze: Timber Ginger Beer
On a dreary day in Seattle, take an hour out of your day to socialize, learn, and enjoy Timber Ginger Beer at this free event. It’s one of the known cures for the Seattle Freeze.
11. Theorist Dr. Michael Bess with Science Fiction Author Ted Chiang: The Superhuman Civilization of the Year 2100
Speculative investigation meets science fiction in this genre-bending event at Paul Allen’s temporary art center, Pivot Art + Culture. Dr. Bess (biotechnologist, Our Grandchildren Redesigned) will speak with award-laden sci-fi author Ted Chiang, and together they’ll imagine the terrifying and invigorating potential of the future.
12. Outdoor Movie Night: Out Cold
Charles Mudede recommends drinking at the movies to survive the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad Seattle winter. There may not be a better place than Peddler’s covered (but outdoor) beer garden, where you can listen to the rain coming down with a pint to warm you up, and watch the sexy snowboarding comedy Out Cold. Plus you can bring your dog.
13. Murder Mystery Company
Murder and dinner go together like… Call of Duty and Mountain Dew? Just trying not to say peanut butter and jelly.
14. The Nordic Heritage Museum’s Nordic Lights Film Festival
This film festival put on by the Nordic Heritage Museum, happening over a single weekend, features contemporary, award-winning films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
15. The Burl-X-Files
Produced by Jo Jo Stiletto Events with Theatre Off Jackson, this production revives the 2013 Burl-X Files (with most of the original cast!) for a very limited engagement.
FRIDAY
16. Wine Flight! A Cabaret Tour of the World’s Varietals
The Bordeaux Project presents this seriously amped-up wine tasting, featuring burlesque, aerial silks and lyra, and dances on poles. Sip on “new world wines” as you take in performances by Marisa Oka, Jane Carter, Boom Boom L’Roux, the Lady B, and more.
17. Rustycon 33
A science fiction and fantasy convention that spans writing, science, art, costuming, and gaming. Look forward to nightly movie screenings, multiple dances, a masquerade, concerts, casinos, and special guests like Steven Barnes, Gene Armstrong, and Julie Zetterberg. (Through Sunday)
SATURDAY
18. Bellevue World Taiko Festival
Taiko is a rhythmic blend of drumming and dance that requires massive co-ordination. Come see what’s it all about at this event presented by Japan Creative Arts.
19. Model Railroad Show
This exhibit will appeal not only to (model) train lovers, but also history buffs and fans of adorable little replicas. They also promise an iron horse railway for kids to ride, plus tie-ins to the history of Pacific Northwest railways.
20. DNC Debate Viewing & Drinking Bingo
Sometimes the only way to engage with politics and face our future is to have a few drinks first, and during, and after. Participate in drinking bingo at Moe Bar during the Democratic National Debate, and prepare for frustrating arguments and a sense of camaraderie.
