Next Monday, downtown will get a dose of juicy soup dumplings courtesy of a new Dough Zone location. Read on to learn more about that and your weekly update of the latest in food news, including a new tapas cafe in Wallingford where you can only speak Spanish and a new family-friendly brewery in Woodinville, plus events for this weekend, like Seattle Street Food Festival. OPENINGS
Black Raven Brewing Company
This Redmond-based brewery soft-opened its second taproom in Woodinville on June 28. Unlike the original Redmond location, which has multiple smaller rooms, the new outpost allows minors until 7 pm and has a spacious room with high ceilings and a four-vessel, 40-barrel brewhouse from Newlands Systems, which will help the company increase production. They’re also preparing to celebrate their 10th anniversary in August.
Woodinville

Dough Zone Dumpling House
According to a Facebook post, the cult-favorite dumpling emporium specializing in succulent xiao long bao (soup dumplings), q-bao (fat, fluffy-crisp pork buns seared in a pan), and other Chinese dishes will soft-open its newest location in the former space of Sansei downtown, just across the street from the Paramount Theatre, on Monday, July 8. A location in Kirkland’s new Kirkland Urban shopping center (which is also getting a Shake Shack) is set to follow by the end of the year.

Olé Café
This new tapas spot, which opened recently in Wallingford and had its first Yelp review on June 17, is owned by Spanish teacher Amanda Reichert and bills itself as “Seattle’s first Spanish-speaking-only cafe.” Guests are encouraged to order and chat with others in Spanish, and there will also be a variety of Spanish language programming, including movies, conversation hours, trivia nights, games, dance nights, karaoke, and tastings, to get the ball rolling. Among the items you can order en español: pan con tomate (bread with tomato, ham, and Manchego cheese), tortilla española (a classic Spanish dish with eggs and potatoes), and churros con chocolate (churros with hot chocolate for dunking).

CLOSURES
BlueStone Bistro
On Monday, this humble Korean joint on E Olive Way announced via Facebook that it had officially closed to make way for a “high-end bar.” It will be replaced by The Doctor’s Office, a tiny whiskey bar with seating for a dozen guests, brought to you by Keith Waldbauer (a former co-owner of Liberty) and Matthew Powell, MD (yes, an actual working doctor!). Think less “stethoscopes and tongue depressors” and more “rare Japanese whiskeys and yakitori skewers.” If all goes according to plan, the space will transition to a reservation-only format. An opening date has not yet been set, but the owners tentatively hope to launch this fall.
Capitol Hill

Tango Restaurant & Lounge
Capitol Hill’s romantic tapas destination announced in a Facebook post on Monday that it has permanently closed its doors after 19 years of business. According to owner Travis Rosenthal, the restaurant called it quits due to rising costs and lower sales, and all employees were offered jobs at Tango’s sibling restaurants, Rumba, Sand Point Grill, and the freshly re-opened Agua Verde Cafe. The message also reassured concerned patrons that they may be able to find Tango’s fan-favorite El Diablo tart (made with chocolate and cayenne) at these restaurants in the next few months.

Gourmands line up at beloved local establishments to try one-of-a-kind burgers created exclusively for the week—and better yet, they’re only $5 a pop. Now, for the first time ever, Seattle is getting in on the fun with The Stranger’s inaugural edition of Burger Week, featuring restaurants in neighborhoods all over the city: Ballard Brothers Seafood & Burgers/Taco Mama’s, Ben Paris, Broadfork Cafe, Coastline Burgers, Duke’s Seafood & Chowder, FareStart Restaurant and Maslow’s, JaK’s Alehouse, Loretta’s Northwesterner, Lunchbox Lab, Maritime Pacific Brewing Co. & Jolly Roger Taproom, Next Level Burger, Orfeo, Ozzie’s, the Park Pub, Star Brass Works Lounge, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, Two Doors Down, and Zippy’s Giant Burgers. Gluten-free and vegan eaters will not be left out of the (delicious) festivities—there will be burger options for both. So go forth and chow down (and don’t forget to tip)!
