This week brings us a holiday-themed smattering of oddity, from John Waters’ Christmas show to the “ugly sweater” edition of Inferno at Neighbours, plus LED animals, a Frank Sinatra birthday bash, and some sort of dragon/magician/comedian. TUESDAY
1. Wildlights
After you spend the day visiting real animals at the Woodland Park Zoo, enjoy this display of creature shapes, brightly lit by thousands of LED lights.
2. Zappa Plays Zappa
Zappa heir apparent (well, really, just heir) Dweezil performs weird-rock icon Frank Zappa’s catalogue with an airtight band.
3. Lost & Found with Trimpin
After an 8-week workshop with Trimpin (renowned local sound artist and sculptor), artists unveil their newly created instruments made out of “lost & found” items.
WEDNESDAY
4. The Gay Uncle Time: Marlene Dietrich Edition
“It’s an avuncular variety show starring Santa-esque comedian Jeffrey Robert and a rotating cavalcade of local stars, drag queens, storytellers, and weirdos. Get a healthy dose of history, comedy, and song from the gay uncle you always wished you had and his friends you always suspected were up to no good.” -Matt Baume
5. Frank Sinatra’s 100th Birthday Celebration
Celebrate blue eyes’ birthday with oysters rockefeller, chop salad, cals, spaghetti, and other not-at-all stereotypical mobster food at Tini Bigs. Danny Quintero will be providing the “sounds of Sinatra” from 7 to 9 pm.
6. A John Waters Christmas
A holiday show with your favorite “Pope of Trash”/”Prince of Puke.”
THURSDAY
7. Cartoon Happy Hour
A two hour block of free classic cartoons every Thursday, plus food specials (and, of course, booze).
8. Cleanser, Novacom, American Nudism, Bankie Phones
No-wave electronics and abstract techno form the foundation of Elevator’s latest lineup at Kremwerk.
9. Seattle Seen
Seattle Seen is a group show at Linda Hodges Gallery featuring local artists exploring our city’s specific cultural weirdness.
10. Puget Soundtrack: Madeleine Cocolas Performs The Birds
Excellent ambient musician Madeleine Cocolas takes on the iconic Hitchcock horror of The Birds.
FRIDAY
11. Piff the Magic Dragon
A man in a dragon suit tells jokes while performing magic tricks…and it’s way more successful than it sounds. You might have seen him on “Penn & Teller,” or as a top ten finalist on “America’s Got Talent.”
12. The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition
Dozens of caroling teams “singing their hearts out for cash donations” to benefit the Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank. Mostly included on this list for the great title, really.
13. Treasure Trove Auction & Show
It’s a Moisture Festival auction with live music, food, dancing, comedy, and of course, the chance to bid on all manner of weird and wonderful items.
SATURDAY
14. Write-O-Rama
Go back to school for a day, but do it better this time. Take classes on poetry, nonfiction micro-essays, or fiction writing with stars like Christine Hemp, JT Stewart, Bharti Kirchner, Nicholas O’Connell, Waverly Fitzgerald, and Ann Hedreen.
15. Inferno Presents: Ugly Sweater Party
Queer ladies’ night Inferno jumps on the “ugly sweater” theme (did we used to call these “Cosby sweaters” before the shit hit the fan?) with a holiday dance night.
16. Rainy City Rubber Men Meetup
Rubber, spandex, leather, neoprene, and wetsuits are suggested attire for this meetup, which will make its way to C.C. Attle’s Fetish Night after a group photo.
SUNDAY
17. Who’s Afraid of Virgina Ham?
Lisa Koch and Peggy Platt return with their holiday sketch-comedy series featuring characters such as The Spudds, a dysfunctional mother-daughter country duo and Sister Mary Agnes, the demented nun.
18. Weird and Awesome with Emmett Montgomery
On the first Sunday of each month, comedy, variety, and “a parade of wonder and awkward sharing” are hosted by the self-proclaimed “mustache wizard” Emmett Montgomery.
