Who painted it: Joseph Wright of Derby is thought to have painted Two Girls Dressing a Kitten by Candlelight sometime in the late 1760s.
What it depicts: Total perversity. Two girls in low-cut dresses, with feathers in their hair, like coquettes. They’re about to start dressing their kitten in the clothes of a doll lying nearby.
