The center of Cris Bruch’s small new show is a haunting object that looks like a windowless burka made of wood strips. It is tightly and perfectly rounded at the top, but at its base, its form undulates, as though it had turned into drapery halfway down. Is someone hiding in there? On the walls surrounding the object are drawings made by brushing layers of black ink onto already wet paper. The ink spreads into clouds and bursts, with thick lines that look like they were poured or dripped on top. The drawings resemble nothing so much as camouflage. It’s an exhibition of a veiling.
