This is a brilliant exhibit and you should all go check it out. ’nuff said.
CP, I agree; saw it on Sunday. But the Frye needs to move the useless chairs from “Gaze” to “Empire,” where they were fucking needed. After two hours of standing I didn’t even want to watch the video art.

FYI: There is currently a sister exhibition of more paintings from the Dahesh collection at the Tacoma Art Museum.
Victorian porno disguised as a “story picture”. This is a variant of the popular harem genre paintings which allowed upper class people to have a little skin showing around the house. I think the goat is actually a poorly imagined gazelle. The Victorians had it that gazelles were popular pets of the harem, they turn up as a trope in all sorts of literature and visual art of the period.
