Now Make Me a Sandwich Makes a Restaurant Called Valhalla Sandwiches, Opening Monday in Greenwood

The Bad Lieutenant—pulled pork, bacon, ham, and provolone with chipotle barbecue sauce and coleslaw—is an awesome sandwich.

Popular food truck Now Make Me a Sandwich will open its brick and mortar venture in Greenwood next Monday, called Valhalla Sandwiches. They join a spate of other successful food trucks who've decided to put down roots, including Cheese Wizards, Poke to the Max, and Bread and Circuses.

Valhalla Sandwiches is an apt title given the truck's viking motif; they plan to add salads, fries, and wine/beer (upon permit approval) to their offerings. So if your Bad Lieutenant wasn't deliciously bad enough for your heart with all that pulled pork, ham, bacon, and provolone, soon you'll be able to wash it down with a beer or three.

Figurehead Brewing Co. Brings the Official Number of Seattle Breweries to 60

On September 2, Figurehead Brewing Co. opened its doors in Magnolia, bringing the official total of Seattle breweries to a rather impressive sixty.

They promise to step away from the traditional IPA-heavy tap list, keeping a couple handy but focusing more on English and Belgian styles. To wit, a Patersbier, which is, according to their site, "a light Abbey style beer that is sessionable but with a malty profile and Belgian yeast character. This is the daily beer that the monks drink." Being a monk doesn't sound half bad, aside from the praying and bad haircuts.

In addition to weekly cask tappings, there will be regular movie nights and the brewery will, of course, be kid and dog friendly: "Dogs and kids are welcome as long as neither bites." From my time in the kid-friendly brewery game, I'd be more worried about the hellions than the hounds.

Make That 61 Breweries in Seattle—If You Count Lagunitas Taking Over the Hilliard's Space

Some sort of tweeting dog announced that California brewing giant Lagunitas would be taking over the vacant Hilliard's space in Ballard. (Hilliard's was purchased earlier this summer by Tukwila's Odin Brewing Company.)

The dog said that its brewmasters were in the process of completing licensing and touching up the space, and Seattleites could reasonably expect to be sipping Lagunitas' light, crisp Czech pils in "a few months prolly." As for Hilliard's, even the dog knows that Odin "acquired Hilliard's recipes & will be keeping their Saison & others alive & well."

Vestal, Josh Henderson's Latest South Lake Union Spot, Opens

Replete with a seven-foot hearth, Vestal swung its doors open to the hungry masses of Amazon-land last week. The restaurant will be anchored by the hearth, which will be surrounded by a chef's counter at which one can find Henderson himself cooking two to three nights a week.

The menu is purposely unbound from any cuisine, allowing Henderson the freedom to basically cook whatever the hell he pleases in his big ol' fire. According what he's said, we can expect to see “some chickens [and] ducks roasting on a twine up in the hearth. Then maybe some roti or flat breads cooking on the plancha and fresh sardines on the grill,” among other delights, including whatever he decides to hearth-bake in whole clay tagines.

Henderson's other nearby projects include Bar Noroeste and Great State Burger. Angela Garbes wrote in detail about Bar Noroeste, Great State, and other restaurants on that block here.

Chase Lounge Retires After a Mere Four Months

Chase Lounge, which had all the elements required to be a Ballard mainstay (a curated oyster list, sports ball on TV, pinball/arcade games, "thoughtful cocktails," etc.), called it quits last week. So, if you were dying to have your classy oyster happy hour and Ms. Pac Man marathon in the same place (were you?), you're out of luck.
