Only open less than two weeks, Ba Bar‘s already had drama:

“All the bartenders in town came over to check him out,” says [owner Eric] Banh. He says Jeffers couldn’t handle the pressure, and that his behavior was “self-destruction, like something in Shakespeare.”

Here’s the story.

  1. To hell with Ba Bar, whatever the fuck that is. “Murray-gate” is the one that grabbed me:

Michael Mina has confirmed that superstar bartender Murray Stenson won’t be at RN74 Seattle when the much-anticipated wine bar and restaurant opens next week. However Stenson’s not necessarily out of the picture.

The official word from Mina: “Murray informed us that due to personal circumstances, he needs three months before he’ll be able to bartend. We are continuing conversations with him and we are both enthusiastic to work together in the future.”

  2. You know, I always figured there were only a handful of cocktails out there. The real ones, the ones mentioned in the later thread where Fnarf and the others go on about the proper ways to drink booze.

And I figured that all the foo-foo drinks were invented by soulless places like Billy McHales and Red Robin, just so they could sell pretty drinks to co-eds.

Imagine my surprise to find out there’s such a thing as a cocktail programmer. One tasked with coming up with new! and fun! drinks.

I’ll be over here, sipping my vodka martini. Far, far away from “Ba Bar”.

  3. @3 really? Is Eater Seattle a newspaper, or Slog? And if one or both of them are newspapers, then I can show you a whole lot of dumber stuff in “newspapers” all over the internet.
