It’s 5pm, and it’s dark out. This was not worth the extra hour of bar time on Saturday.

(Update: it’s been brought to my attention that there was no extra time at the bars this year—isn’t there usually? And yes, I’m mad at DST for leaving us, every year.)

    While it’s the “correct” time now, I wish we could have DST be the “correct” time. I’d prefer to have my light in the afternoon when I can use it.

  8. Phht! It felt so good to not get dressed and head out while it was still dim this morning. Made a huge difference for me, at least. Yeah, it would be nice to have a bit more daylight after school/work/play but it’s already dark by the time I get home at the end of the day so it doesn’t upset me.

    It really sucks for the boyfriend, however, who stays up until the wee hours and sleeps in. Lazy bum!

  9. The time doesn’t change, only the clock changes. The light isn’t much earlier or later than it was on Saturday. Do things earlier in the day if you like the light. Or don’t even change your clocks – make them say whatever time you want it to be. Fuck clocks anyway.

  11. don’t blame daylight saving time for standard time’s dark ways. it kept you in sunshine a couple extra weeks this year and this is how you treat it?

  13. Even worse, all the lights just turned out at work, cause nobody reset the 8 pm lights out for daylight savings time, so they go out at 7 pm while I’m working …

    Screw it, I’m going home.

  14. The last time I was in a bar during the time change was a few years ago, but I remember that they didn’t give us the extra hour. So I suppose for drunks it works opposite – in the spring we can drink until 3am! (Kinda!)

  15. I remember when we went on Daylight Savings Time in the winter of 1974 as a way of dealing with the energy crisis. I was in the sixth grade at the time. It didn’t save much energy since it was still pitch dark out in the morning while we were getting ready for school. I remember all the kids in my neighborhood carrying flashlights to the bus stop. So @2 is probably correct about DST not delivering on the promised savings in energy. Still, I do like having extended hours of daylight on summer evenings.

    so less light was tolerable
    I’ll be heading to the polling station at 6am tomorrow. It will be more magical in the dark!

  18. I have this same conversation with someone every year regarding the extra hour of bar time.
    Some people insist that they’ve never been in a bar that stayed open for and extra hour.
    I have several times.
    I suppose it depends on where you choose to do your drinking!

  19. For the record, Nectar Lounge did in fact stay open an extra hour on Saturday, which meant that DJ Spooky was able to start at 12:30 (DST) and still play over 2 hours.
