The Death of the Late Night Rider (with apologies to Randall Jarrell)

by Daniel Enderle

And I retched until bile ran from my nose.
Six miles from home, my bowels refused to hold,
I woke to sirens and a nightmare scenario.
When I died they washed me from the bus with a hose.
