Now Open

Herb & Bitter Public House is now open on Capitol Hill, in the space that was home to Than Brothers Pho for many years. Owner Jesus Escobor, who also owns Rocco’s in Belltown and used to own Downtown’s Noc Noc, has completely overhauled the space, which now has skylights, a massive bar made of reclaimed wood, and, most notably, a back patio with a retractable glass roof (and air condition and heating) that will be open year-round. As the name implies, the well-stocked bar, overseen by Leroy Smith, serves cocktails built on various amari, the bitter, herbal Italian liqueur, as well as eight spirits that are barrel-aged in house, and 20 taps of craft and hard-to-find beers. The menu is Spanish-style tapas, executed by chef Alex Golden, who previously cooked at Beacon Hill’s excellent Bar del Corso.

Ethan Stowell has opened his tenth restaurant, Frēlard Pizza Company, on Leary Way, next to Tray Kitchen. Designed to be a family-friendly space, it has both a large deck and a children’s play area, and serves the same menu as Stowell’s Ballard Pizza Company.

On Queen Anne, Bounty Kitchen is now serving veggie-driven salads and grain bowls in the former Grub space. Bounty offers three meals a day, including weekday breakfast service starting at 7:30 a.m.

Opening Very, Very Soon
Exciting: Salare in Ravenna, chef Edouardo Jordan’s (Bar Sajor) first restaurant, officially opens its doors on Friday, June 12. You can make reservations here.

Two Beers Brewing and Seattle Cider Company will debut their new, much larger Sodo taproom, The Woods, this Saturday, June 13. It’s located right next to their old tasting room, has 24 taps, an outdoor seating area, a custom shuffleboard table, and foosball. This fall, the food truck Bread & Circuses will open a permanent restaurant in the space.

It’s Seattle Herring Week
As Tobias Coughlin-Bogue recently wrote, there’s a movement under way to bring back herring—once a staple of the Seattle diet and plentiful in Puget Sound—to restaurants and grocery stores. To that end, Seattle Herring Week, organized by Lexi of the Old Ballard Liquor Co., is happening right now and runs until June 14. You can try herring at restaurants around town like Anchovies and Olives, Little Uncle, Pair, Palace Kitchen, and Sushi Kappo Tamura. For a full list, go here.

South Lake Union Gets Its Own Farmers’ Market
Last Saturday was the first ever Terry Avenue Saturday Market, a farmers’ market in South Lake Union. Organized by the same people behind the Ballard and Fremont Sunday Markets, the Terry Avenue Market features local farms and artisan food products, and will run every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until October 3. Among the weekly vendors: Sweet Bumpas, the ice cream cart from former Poppy pastry chef Matt Bumpas, scooping flavors like chipotle peanut brittle and strawberry cocoa crunch with toppings like caramel corn, as well as pandan leaf and lime ice cream sandwiches.
