Great, another band with “Black” in its name. But Bay Area sludge-metal duo Black Cobra make up for that annoyance with songs that avalanche with infernal gravity. Guitarist/vocalist Jason Landrian and drummer Rafa Martinez have a decade of high-energy heavy music roiling around in their hairy heads; their latest album, Invernal, hones Black Cobra’s bludgeoning attack to a lethal degree, as Landrian’s fleet guitar riffs emulate walrus groans while Martinez generates thunder. There’s nothing seasonally festive about this stuff, thank Satan. (Highline, 210 Broadway E, 328-7837, 8 pm, $10, 21+)
