Shots fired at UW campus: There were six to eight shots fired last night at 11:21 p.m. near the Mercer Court apartments. No injuries were reported but at least one bullet went through an apartment window. The Mercer Court apartments are student housing. UWPD contained the area.
Arrest made in Wallingford woman’s murder: Lita Byrnes was a fixture in the Wallingford community; she moderated the neighborhood’s Facebook page and was generally well-liked. It was a shock to everyone when she was found stabbed to death in her own home last month. Now, a 25-year-old male suspect has been arrested in connection to the murder. He was a roommate of Byrnes’.
North and South Korea are going to end the Korean War: Kim Jong-un from North Korea and Moon Jae-in from South Korea met at a historic summit meeting (the first time a North Korean leader had ever set foot in the South!). There, they “vowed to rid the divided Korean Peninsula of nuclear weapons,” the New York Times writes. Within the year, the two, plus the United States, will discuss officially ending the Korean War. I wonder if Trump will take credit for this. It’ll be like the season 5 ending of Veep.
“Peace and prosperity are planted”: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean Pres. Moon Jae-in take part in a tree-planting ceremony to commemorate their historic meeting, using soil and water from both countries. https://t.co/OZnKOxWGuB pic.twitter.com/ypIvLvIaoQ

Washington solar farm faces backlash: The farming community of Ellensburg doesn’t want their farmland to be engulfed by black, photovoltaic panels. Some of them are all for it. The Brunsons, long-time farmers, are leasing 80 of their 1,000 acres to a Seattle-based solar-power developer. Another 120 acres have been allocated by three other Ellensburg farmers. This would be one of the first solar farms in Washington state. The Seattle Times reports that “opponents worry that a project here, combined with a rising demand for clean energy such as solar, will swallow up whole swaths of agricultural land.”
Tacoma tenants get an extension: Residents of the Tiki apartments in Tacoma were notified in April by new ownership that they’d have to vacate by the end of the month. Many tenants physically couldn’t pack up and move let alone find a new place to live in such a short period. The Tacoma City Council “voted on a new ordinance requiring landlords to provide month-to-month renters at least 90 days notice before eviction,” according to KING5. This won’t impact the Tiki tenants, but they have until the end of June to move out. They’ll receive $600 in relocation costs.
Amazon wants more of your money: Prime membership is going up from $99 to $119 annually starting May 11th. That’s not a lot of notice. It’s also the first time the membership price has raised since 2014 when it went from $79 to $99. “This is a better reflection of the cost value of the program,” Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky said according to GeekWire. If you’re not trying to pay an extra $20 a year, you should jump ship. If you’re like me and didn’t realize you had Prime until you were streaming Red Oaks without any issues, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate its worth. Red Oaks was good, but was it that good, you know?
Is it snowing on a comet? The European Space Agency’s Rosetta probe’s mission to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko ended, but there’s fresh excitement concerning the pictures it sent back.

Compiled into a GIF, the pictures make it look like there are flurries of snow on the comet. You can also see the Cliffs of Hathor which look as cool as the name sounds. But, Mark McCaughrean, the senior adviser for ESA’s science and exploration, said it’s probably dust. Some of the streaks are cosmic rays. If you look closer, a lot of them are stars. Take a look at that GIF lined up with the stars. Pay close attention to the background.

That’s all. I love space.
Sea vs. sky solution: It’s like Dunkirk on Lake Union with competition from the sea and the sky. Water traffic and air traffic have been at odds, but now there’s a solution. A brand-spanking-new runway is coming in the form of five buoys with flashing warning lights. It’ll be installed the week before Memorial Day. The runway arrives just as seaplanes are taking off to and from Vancouver, B.C. The new route started yesterday.
Mood: The sunrise is bracing for a chillier day than the rest of the week. Which one resonates with you more?
Sunrise Friday versus sunrise Thursday from the NOAA complex at Sandpoint in Seattle. Cooler today with a little sunshine this afternoon. Showers arriving this evening and continuing through the weekend. Spring is back. #wawx pic.twitter.com/K0AOatNkMC

The Seahawks’ draft pick: Okay, so I’m not going to try to understand how the NFL draft works or how the Seahawks are doing (people are worried about them this year?). My number one source for football knowledge was no help today:

Please chime in if you know more. But, what I can tell you is the Seahawks got Rashaad Penny, a running back out of San Diego State University. I incorrectly told someone who told me about the draft pick that SDSU isn’t a big football school. I think that was wrong? I double-checked:

Anyway, the Seahawks are trying to build their run game this year. They don’t want to rely too heavily on Russell Wilson. That is literally all I have to say about that. Thank you for your time.
More on Kanye: He’s still living out his dark twisted fantasy and his online behavior continues to be 808 & heartbreaking for his fans. But, he really doesn’t give a fuck. Yeezy is doing what Yeezy wants. Let him, we don’t need him when we have raw talent like this:

If you grow a brain in a lab, will it have a mind of its own? That’s the headline of this cool story I read yesterday by Popular Science. Basically, it confronts the ethical dilemma of growing brains for research and at what point those brains are alive. It’s like the reverse of the whole “life stops at brain death” thing. We can grow brain cells that are valuable for research on shit like Alzheimer’s. We don’t have the science to actually grow a full brain. Yet.
Those stupid genealogy tests helped bust the Golden State killer: One of the alleged suspect’s relatives sent their DNA into one of those websites and Sacramento investigators were able to partially match it with DNA collected from a crime scene years ago. One of the guy’s nephews or something just wanted to know what percent Irish he was and ended up getting his uncle busted for serial killing. Apparently, when the suspect was arrested he was shocked. He told investigators that he had a roast in the oven.
EU is committed to saving the bees: The European Union is banning the world’s most widely used insecticides, neonicotinoids, because of the serious danger they pose to bees. The insecticide can contaminate soil and water. There was global contamination of honey samples by neonicotinoids.
Fun fact for your Friday: On July 19, 1969, John Fairfax became the first person to row solo across any ocean. He rowed across the Atlantic. His fame was short-lived, though, as the very next day humans landed on the Moon for the first time. Talk about being one-upped.
This weekend’s best Seattle entertainment options include A series of events for the Seattle Black Panther Party 50th Anniversary, the MoPOP Pop Conference, and the Seattle Erotic Art Festival.
