Here Come the Christian Nationalists (Again): According to sources who spoke to PubliCola, the city is expected to allow the anti-gay, anti-trans evangelical musician Sean Feucht to host an intentionally provocative Christian supremacist rally and concert at Cal Anderson Park later this month. Erica C. Barnett reports that “The city considered denying the permit on security grounds—police will be stretched thin across multiple big events over the busy Labor Day weekend—but ultimately did not want to risk a First Amendment lawsuit from Feucht’s group.” Did they learn nothing from May’s “Rattle in Seattle”?
Mayor Harrell’s Chief of Staff Resigns: I wanted to make a joke about how it’s probably because he’s the one who fucked up the Election Night cake, but Jeremy Racca actually went on unpaid leave in July to focus on his health after multiple cardiac events. Nothing really funny about that. “If I were 100% healthy, I’d still be in the job,” he told the Seattle Times.
Hilary Franz Accused of Ignoring Abuse: In a new lawsuit, a former staffer is claiming that the former Commissioner of Public Lands (and gubernatorial candidate) retaliated against her after she reported an abusive relationship with Franz’s general counsel Daniel Teimouri. The staffer, Bailey Boyd, alleges that after she told Franz about the abuse multiple times, Franz excluded her from work-related travel and meetings. According to KUOW, Teimouri was sentenced to 60 days of home monitoring and 5 years probation after he pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence assault this April. Franz claims the allegations are false; a trial is scheduled for next July.
Hold Your Breath: The Bear Gulch fire is still burning on the Olympic Peninsula and wind gusts may carry some of that smoky air our way for the next few days. National Weather Service meteorologist Kayla Mazurkiewicz told the Seattle Times, “folks around King County will likely notice haze, smell some smoke and see vibrant sunrises and sunsets.”
Don’t Give Trump Any Ideas: Russia is restricting calls on WhatsApp and Telegram, claiming the apps are being used to “involve Russian citizens in sabotage and terrorist activities.” WhatsApp reportedly has 96 million monthly users, and Telegram serves more than 89 million monthly users.
People Love Guns: In May, Gov. Bob Ferguson signed into law a bill that requires Washington residents to get a permit (and pass live-fire training) in order to purchase a gun. It goes into effect in 2027. Concealed carry licenses have jumped in the wake of the news. Last year, residents applied for fewer than 6,000 new concealed pistol licenses (CPLs), according to the Washington State Standard. This year, Washington residents have already applied for 14,000 additional CPLs.
Release the Epstein Files: Trump’s attempts to distract the nation from the fact that Attorney General Pam Bondi told him his name appears in the Epstein files continue to fail. Now, “several” survivors of Epstein’s abuse, who have not yet gone public, are expected to join Democratic Representative Ro Khanna of California and Republican Representative Thomas Massie in a news conference on September 3, as lawmakers return to work.
LOL Fuck You, Abbott: Remember those Texas lawmakers who left the state to prevent Republicans from gerrymandering congressional maps to gain more Republican seats? They’re still holding down their respective forts in blue states, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is still pissed. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wanted the Democrats to be held in contempt, but an Illinois judge was like, “Nah.”
Not an Onion Headline: “Man Charged With Assaulting Federal Agent With Sandwich in D.C.” A 37-year-old man was taunting federal agents on Sunday, yelling things like, “Shame! Shame!” and (rightly) calling them fascists. He eventually threw what appears to be a footlong Subway sandwich at one of the officers, hitting him in the chest, and yes, there is video. After he was detained, he reportedly said, “I did it. I threw the sandwich.” Put it on my tombstone.
The Sandwich Didn’t Scare Them Away: The Federal troops in DC have made 66 arrests in the past two days, according to White House officials, who are always honest and never, ever corrupt. Officials also say their little police puppets will start doing encampment sweeps as part of their patrol, which DO NOT REDUCE CRIME. This is what you trained so hard to do, buddies? Be beat cops for a fascist dictator? Honestly, if I were them, I’d be throwing sandwiches at myself.
ProPublica spoke to about 150 people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote: projects.propublica.org/impact-of-ho…

Regardless, a man developed bromism, a 19th-century psychiatric disorder, after replacing sodium chloride (table salt) with sodium bromide (used in cleaning products) because ChatGPT told him to. But before you laugh, consider this: People are growing increasingly desperate to access any kind of healthcare as doctors become increasingly harder to find and costs for care are going up. Sigh.

Laugh all you want at Texas Republicans now. But remember, Republicans get the last laugh, when these Democrats are fined tens of thousands of dollars (which cannot be paid from campaign contributions) and are possibly removed from office. And yes, we will be laughing mightily.
The Federal Agents in DC have nothing to be ashamed of. They are not fascists, they are simply people who love their country and want to uphold it’s laws. They are heros. And of course, if you attack a hero with a hero (sandwich) then you are going to rightfully spend some time in jail.
Maybe the Feds will come here next and help us with our encampment mess. Looks like they can fix in days what our local government has been unable to fix in 20 years.
Pigs have glass bones and will wail and gnash teeth anout water bottles and soft food hitting their body armor for literal years. Go easy on the poow widdle guys. They’d never survive on the receiving end of what they throw/shoot at civilians
Washington Post poll: 90% Washington DC residents say crime is a big problem. Big problem in the black areas.
But go ahead and poo poo it with your stale ‘Crime is down’ stats. Even the Morning Joe libs aren’t buying that.
You levy any projectile at cops and make a scene, your sorry ass needs to be detained.
@2 Now want to compare how many republicans have been removed from office in the last year for having pornography of children?
Spoiler: it’s kind of a lot.
@1, It is becoming increasingly hard to find healthcare (waiting lists, 6 to 9 months to get an appointment, etc.) as Medicare and Medicaid become increasingly larger components of healthcare. The reimbursement rates are less than cost.
That does not mean we should not pursue a single-payer, public system. The private system has many problems; however, it does cross-subsidize the losses providers take on Medicaid and Medicare. Without the private side, we would have even more doctors, nurses, and other providers leaving the field and even greater delays to get appointments as a new patient anywhere.
The biggest problem in the U.S. is we aren’t having the discussion about the tradeoffs of any of the options. The status quo is a shitshow; however, the alternatives are most likely different smelling shit. We need to choose, with intentionality, what odor we want.to wear.
Don’t love how canned the anti-gun narrative is at this place (and everywhere else in Seattle). The rest of the state doesn’t hate firearms, you know. Shame that the Dems only represent a moneyed few who want exclusively their ordained servants (cops and soldiers, plus some personal mooks) to have guns, and thus seek to prevent the rest of us from having free access to something that is guaranteed both in the US Constitution AND the Washington state constitution.
Trumpism is a mental illness
@5 – I suppose we could compare lists, your list of Republicans up against say a list of public school teachers accused of the same offenses. There might be a lot of Republicans on your list, but they don’t outnumber the teachers. We all know that.
@7 – don’t forget the John Brown Gun Club, they are also on the list of favored groups or individuals who are given a free pass by the Stranger to carry guns.
@8 – Trump Derangement Syndrom is a mental illness. Fixed it for ya.
Old enough to remember when “facts don’t care about your feelings” was a conservative mantra but now facts make them angry. How dare you puncture my media-driven moral panic with the truth?
Regarding the item “LOL Fuck You, Abbott”, I think it’s darn time that Trump send the Marines in to Illinois to root out those rat-like Texas Dems. Memo to that fat, little man J.B. Pritzker and whoever the latest African American mayor of Chicago is, “If you don’t release the hostages, we’re going to make Chicago look like Gaza City.”
I’m reminded of “The Marines’ Hymn”:
From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Michigan
That reminds me. When do we invade Mexico to root out the drug cartels? So Claudia Sheinbaum says our help isn’t welcome. What a whiner. Like a hysterical woman squealing about a quote-unquote “unwelcome advance” ever stopped our president from taking what was rightfully his.
Also, about all that wildfire smoke blowing in from Canada, if the lazy Canadians don’t want to put out the fires for us, then Trump needs to send in the National Guard to put the fires out for them.
Hey libs, it’s called “The Monroe Doctrine.” And last I checked, you were perfectly fine with Monroe when he was a person of color in that musical about our prissy founding fathers.
Disclaimer. This post was generated with the help of MAGA-AI™.
@4 “Washington Post poll: 90% Washington DC residents say crime is a big problem”
Statistics show crime is actually down, but residents still think it’s a “big problem.” Can’t possibly be the result of the decades-long conservative strategy of stoking fear of crime (and racial others) to drive support for their repressive policies can it? See also suburban King County residents who are too irrationally scared even to drive through downtown Seattle.
I mean, crime can be going down and still be a big problem but by that same token people can think crime is a big problem without wanting the military deployed. Crime is not bad enough in any US city to justify these actions but being scared of cities is a core conservative value these days so this makes great tv for the base.
@7
By all means, also disarm the police, and idiots who rant about their luv 4 guns.
From 2023 but still relevant:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/people-think-crime-rate-up-actually-down-rcna129585
“Murder plummeted in the United States in 2023 at one of the fastest rates of decline ever recorded, Asher found, and every category of major crime except auto theft declined.
Yet 92% of Republicans, 78% of independents and 58% of Democrats believe crime is rising, the Gallup survey shows.”

TS (and probably many of its readers) needs a refresher on NSPA v Skokie 1977 in regards to the possible and regrettable return of Christian zealots to Cal Anderson, lest they want to reinforce precedent with a Feucht v Seattle.
As for alleged police bias last May, say what you want about the SPD, those officers are at least intelligent enough to know who not to turn their backs to.
If the Feucht show does come to town, TS will no doubt demand locals cancel their holiday plans to face off at the park. That would be poor counsel. Rather, residents would be far better off to evacuate the area, turn Caphill into a ghost town and enjoy themselves off in some beach towns while the Christian attendees enjoy a solitary mastabatory afternoon. When a Christian nationalist prays loudly alone in a park, does he make a sound?
13: I agree with that. My only gripe on this is the way crime falling stats are hyped.
What Trump is doing is devastating to the military morale. All that training to become the wrath of civilians.

Yes why don’t all the residents of Capitol Hill quit complaining and simply take a beach vacation that weekend? The tens of thousands of people who live or work in the vicinity of Cal Anderson can just decamp to their summer villas to avoid this unpleasantness.
Seems like you have more money than sense.
@17: “When a Christian nationalist prays loudly alone in a park, does he make a sound??”

Tough GOP men cry to ‘Daddy’ Trump for help with scary cities
Conservatives who have depicted Donald Trump as a strong “daddy” finally whipping the nation into shape have spent the past few days expressing over-the-top fears about cities. Despite their so-called tough guy image, leaders on the right have offered fearful remedies while pushing lies about urban crime.
During the 2024 campaign Republicans characterized Trump as a “daddy” who was coming to straighten out misbehaving Americans supposedly coddled by maternal politicians like former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
In recent weeks the right has doubled down on this cringeworthy imagery, adopting the song lyrics “daddy’s home” to herald Trump’s purported leadership on the world stage.
But now “daddy” is hearing a lot of crying from some tearful boys and girls.
The new scaredy-cat campaign is meant to provide cover for Trump’s decision to send federal law enforcement and the National Guard to a supposedly crime-ridden Washington, D.C. Republicans have ignored and denied data showing a drop in crime and instead decided to fearmonger.

@17, @21: Or, as I wrote last time, some Capitol Hill residents could organize ahead of time, infiltrate and monkey-wrench the event, by provoking the bigots into violence– simply by showing off the Big Gay Lifestyle O’Cap Hill. Then the residents AND the city sue the bigots for bringing violence onto Capitol Hill, Seattle. Play the bigots’ game against them, and they won’t return.
Also @21, there are many other great places, right there in Seattle, to visit on any given weekend. Make the event about a bunch of bigots playing to a deserted Capitol Hill, and then getting arrested for assaulting the only residents who did stick around: the event’s infiltrators.
@9 you were talking about democrats versus republicans.
Someone called you out about how many have been accused of child pornography, and your counter is teachers?
Are teachers a political affiliation now?
@25: Your constant trolling is even more annoying, Calvin dear.

@28 Bmleon: Ol’ Babybarf is too scared of teachers to actually learn anything.
That’s why he only parrots willful misinformation.
It’s the GOP preprogrammed fear tactics that have him marching over the side

Sorry, forgot to add @27, both Seattle and the Stranger once knew how to monkey-wrench outsiders’ made-for-media productions:
‘The cast reacts negatively to the way the city of Seattle takes to The Real World being videotaped there. At one point, they notice a lot of people selling and wearing shirts that say, “Seattle says: The Real World sucks!”‘ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Real_World:_Seattle)
(And, while the Stranger’s own Wayback Machine doesn’t go that far back, it had publicly announced a contest to monkey-wrench the show.)
Seattle, and the Stranger, need to relearn and apply such lessons to the bigots. For example, on the night before and after the bigots’ big show, quietly surveil the sidewalks outside of Pony, etc., and take images of any non-regulars entering or exiting. Then determine how many of them were bigots in town for the show, and out every last one of them on social media.
