Sexisim, youthful rebellion, the struggle for independence, social media empowerment, American popular culture, neoliberal poverty, domestic/sexual abuse are just some of the themes in three must-see documentaries in this year’s Seattle International Film Festival.
I think we should watch all three (Presenting Princess Shaw, Sonita, and Marzia, My Friend) and then meet early next month (June 8) at the Vermillion Gallery to exchange ideas about their possible meanings, themes, and subjects—all of whom (one from the US, two from Afghanistan) are young women of our times.
But here is the catch: One of the films in this trinity, Presenting Princess Shaw, is only showing tonight at the Egyptian. If want to see all three, and possibly contribute to the conversation, you can’t miss it.
