Jon Stewart slams Congress for not showing up to hear 9/11 first responders: The comedian and former host of The Daily Show went viral this afternoon with an angry, tearful speech in front of Congress during a hearing for reauthorizing the 9/11 victim compensation fund. "Sick and dying, they brought themselves here to speak," he says to a room filled with empty chairs. "Accountability doesn't appear to be something that occurs in this chamber," he continues. If you haven't watched the video yet, you will. It's everywhere. I haven't seen all the major news outlets cover a story this breathlessly since 9/11. The full speech, below:

A new "Museum of Museums" is opening up in an old office building in First Hill: Capitol Hill Seattle Blog has the scoop. MoM (a very cute acronym) will house two galleries with rotating installations and exhibitions, reports CHS. It is expected to open this fall and will have an August preview party. Popular artists and curators like Anthony White, Bri Luna (The Hoodwitch), and Neon Saltwater are slated to create installations. The building is located on the intersection of Boylston Ave, Marion, and Broadway:

A former Tukwila detective has been charged with possession of child pornography: The 61-year-old man, Gary Jon Koutouvidis, was "charged with four counts of first-degree possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct," reports the Seattle Times. Detectives found 35,385 images that “were sexually explicit in nature" on the man's computer, some of them including children estimated to be as young as five. Yikes.

Seattle Symphony names Ludovic Morlot their next Conductor Emeritus: Morlot will step down as the symphony's Music Director at the end of this season to take on the new position, Seattle Symphony announced today. Full press release here. We'll have an interview with Morlot on this here Slog later this week.

In case you missed it, hackers are holding Radiohead to ransom: Recently, an anonymous hacker/creep stole unreleased digital Radiohead recordings and threatened to release the recordings unless a ransom was paid of $150,000. Weird, but true. The band didn't give in and has instead decided to release the tracks on Bandcamp for ~$23, reports GQ, and they are giving all the proceeds to Extinction Rebellion, an activist group fighting climate change and biodiversity loss. Radiohead says the tracks aren't that interesting, but if you want to buy them and support climate change activism you can do so here.

This gives me an idea: Remember when Jeff Bezos's nudes were stolen and held to ransom? My professional advice is that Mr. Bezos post his dick pixxx for sale on OnlyFans.com and have all the proceeds go toward fixing the housing crisis his company helped create. How's THAT for a head tax?

Nonprofit raises millions to build housing for chronically homeless people: Plymouth Housing raised nearly $49 million of the $75 million it wants to raise to build eight new buildings with about 800 homes around Seattle, according to Crosscut. A handful of vultures Seattle corporations chipped in $5 million to help the cause. Now just imagine a world where the city forced all those companies to give $49 million for permanent supportive housing every year instead of just maybe once this year a little bit. That world could have existed if the city council hadn’t repealed the head tax after Amazon and other big businesses revolted. Alas, now we have to watch the Seattle Times give companies blowjobs for their philanthropy.

More news from Crosscut: I love this.

I want a dog:

Apparently UW is the best college for LGBTQ students: The University of Washington has ranked #1 in America as the "best college for LGBTQ students," according to this year's ranking by BestColleges.com and Campus Pride. I don't completely get how this ranking works but it's nice, assuming the data points that make up this "Campus Pride Index score" mean anything.

Netflix's Russian Doll is renewed for a second season: The news was announced at Recode's 2019 Code Conference, which is sort of weird, but whatever. I don't think anyone thought Russian Doll wasn't getting renewed, but good news nevertheless. It's come to my attention that lots of people thought it wasn't getting renewed since the first season felt so complete, but—come on, it's Netflix. They run things into the ground. In a January interview with The Hollywood Reporter, one of the show's writers/directors, Leslye Headland, confessed they pitched the show as three seasons:

“We pitched Netflix three seasons of the most bonkers, heartfelt, passionate, this-is-what-we-truly-feel-like-is-our-story-to-tell idea…And they said: ‘Great, the more of that, the better. The more you guys this can be, the better. Here are the resources and the support — take off.'”

Anyhow, here's the full interview with Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix, and Natasha Lyonne, the co-creator, writer, director, and star of the show, with Recode’s Kara Swisher:

More on that Salesforce acquisition of Tableau: It's the second-largest acquisition of a Washington company, reports the Seattle Times. The only bigger acquisition was the 2002 acquisition of Immunex, with a deal size valued at $16 billion, acquired by Amgen. Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, said today on a conference call, "With Tableau, Seattle will become our second headquarters of Salesforce. That's going to be our HQ2 if you will." A Seattle tech analyst told the Times that the acquisition was "very defensive."

  • PSA from Seattle City Light: I've been asked to inform you that you BE CAREFUL with your mylar balloons this graduation season. They've got a blog post up with tips, and here's Julie Moore, the PR manager for Seattle City Light, with the T:

We’ve started a public service campaign to raise awareness about the risk of stray mylar balloons, which can catch fire when they come in contact with powerlines, causing outages or damaging equipment (not to mention the potential impacts on wildlife and the environment). We’re doing a push now to coincide with graduation season, when mylar balloons are a common feature of celebrations. We’ve got a blog post up with tips, a quote from an SME and two short videos. Was thinking the videos might be perfect for a SLOG AM or PM.

These PSA videos are perfect for Slog AM/PM. I'm embedding them. Note the important hashtag, #Thisishowwemylar.
