I guess I don't understand how the government is 'in' the healthcare business, since all they are doing is creating a standard for health insurance coverage and creating incentives for people to go buy the same private health insurance that most of the people who 'don't want no Obamacare' already have.
Don't let Government play Doctor. Unless you're Bill Frist and you're diagnosing a patient 1000's of miles from you who is in a chronic vegetative state. Then Congress will blow the constitution to shreds to play Doctor.
Whatever the dickishness of Obamacare opponents, I'm STILL WAITING for Obama and his minions to kick in a full-court PR press to get the damn thing going nationwide. If he doesn't, he'll own the failure for all time.
There's plenty of evidence that the provisions already in force, and the experience of early-adopter partners like California, are saving lives and tons of money (young adults still on their parents' insurance getting timely diagnosis and non-bankrupting cancer treatments; tens of thousand of people in CA's Medicaid expansion going to clinics and doctors instead of racking up ER bills that they will never pay but the rest of us subsidize, etc.).
He needs to get himself, his Cabinet officials, NIH-funded scientists, and supportive Congress-critters out on a nonstop roadshow flooding the airwaves every news cycle. If he really gives a shit, that is.
Social Security, Medicare, and OTHER important civil-rights legislation all faced bitter criticism and full-throated opposition during their initial implementation.
The people who supported them vigorously defended them in the public arena. It will be no small irony if a nation now full of offhand twatters and duke-it-out blog commenters stands by and lets this lifesaving program be pecked to smithereens by the roadkill-snarfling crows of Congress.
Anybody who has watched any gay porn knows that if you really want to give it to somebody in a doctor fantasy, you have him bend over the exam table. Makes for a much better camera angle.
This might actually be news, you guys.
Fucking emotionalist politics.
