FILM

SPLIFF Film Fest
A new vibe of stoner entertainment is emerging—witness the rise of Broad City, High Maintenance, and basically every TV show created on Viceland. And now, most importantly, The Stranger presents SPLIFF, your new favorite film festival created by the stoned for the stoned. We received films (four minutes and twenty seconds or less!) from all around the world. Our inaugural lineup is hilarious, weird, sexy, trippy, and unlike any stoner films you've seen before. There are spaceships, Rihanna-inspired blunt tutorials, dancing boobs, Australians, puppets, ASMR candy sandwiches...Unfortunately, because of LAWS, you can't smoke inside the theater, and you're not supposed to smoke outside of it, either. MUSIC

The Dawg Trio
Mandolin linchpin David Grisman’s Deadhead fandom was forever secured after his appearance on seminal Grateful Dead album American Beauty and ensuing collaborations with the late Jerry Garcia. He’s deserving of attention outside his Dead connection, however. His self-styled “Dawg music” finely and craftily mixes bluegrass, Django Reinhardt–influenced jazz, modern jazz fusion, folk, and old-world Mediterranean string band music. In the acoustic Dawg Trio, Grisman is joined by bassist son Sam Grisman and banjo slinger Danny Barnes, who’s played sideman to artists ranging from Dave Matthews to Bill Frisell. LEILANI POLK

PERFORMANCE

A Doll's House, Part 2
Nora, in Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House, is arguably one of the most famous female roles in 19th-century theater. Every leading ingenue has had her turn playing the "little lark"—even Seattle's Cherdonna Shinatra recently took on the role. But the ending of the play is famously up for interpretation, and Tony Award nominee Lucas Hnath's cheekily titled A Doll's House, Part 2 takes on the challenge of picking up where Ibsen left off. It's funny, smart, and maybe the best old play to come out of the 2010s. CHASE BURNS
