I watch Mad Men, but I can't quite glean what "Peggy Olsen" means as a verb. Did I forget a scene where someone told her to take an insult as a compliment?
Rules of engagement: If someone who is cool calls you a path-breaking woman, that's cool. If someone who is uncool says the same thing, accuse them of essentialism or of being patronizing or of some other random anti-feminist sin. When called on it, show your rage with a nonsensical outburst. All the cool people will love you, because the important thing is to show your coolness by publicly denigrating the uncool.
Her music is good. I'm glad to be reminded to give it a relisten. I do deeply regret following the link to pb's hideous twitter page. I guess they know their market, but I'm sorry to be reminded that that market exists. I breath the same air they do.
I love Neko Case and I think she makes a great point here.
But I'm not sure I understand the hate in this thread for Playboy. Isn't the prevailing ethos around here generally pro-porn (hello Hump!) and anti-slut-shaming?
Or are Playboy Playmates somehow "the bad sluts" that it's OK to shame? And Playboy is bad for celebrating those sluts?
If Playboy is hated here for being a publication of cheesecake pinups, how do you all feel about a "mainstream" porn site such as Kink.com, that features actual brutalization of women?
Also, wasn't Playboy kind of instrumental in the whole sexual revolution/birth control/women's liberation thing?
