Farewell Mr. Mizell. May you always fly. It was a damn good 12 years reading your mind.
2
What? No way. 2004? How is it possible that 12 years have gone by?

Well, I always wanted to tell you, but never got around to it - so I better say so now, how much I loved much of the work of the Mizell Bros. particularly their work with The Rance Allen Group. "Reason to Survive" is a big favorite - so uplifting and encouraging. First time I heard it, somewhere around LACC, it brought a tear to my eyes. That's how beautiful it was (is).

Very best wishes, L.

Are you moving out of the city as well? If so, where is this nirvana that you're relocating to where you can be in the place w/ your folks?
4
@3: sounds like he's going back to LA? if you miss your family, you have to go where they are.
5
Thank you, Larry. Is this the end of Street Sounds on KEXP too??
6
Always looked forward to reading this column. Thx for the illumination and best in yr future endeavs.
7
Thank you and farewell! You are an original in more ways than one, and you'll be missed!
8
thank you larry, always loved to hear your voice here. i nominate Nphared to continue MP :)

Thanks for the years of sharing your knowledge, opinions, and observations. I remember when you started after a long gap of Dan Savage writing the hip hop column, terribly, in hopes that it would motivate someone to fill the opening as fast as possible. Glad it was you. (I also remember the Cherrywine show @ chopsuey. Good times)

You will be missed! Your voice has always been real and potent and thought-provoking. Very best wishes for the next stage!

Thank you for everything you did and do to lift Seattle, especially for us here at V. You are irreplaceable.
13
I'm tearing up a little. For reals. I have learned so much from you, and have been introduced to some damn special shit. Thank you.
14
Thanks for your work, has it been so long? I'm still a tourist, may always be, but it's been educational to pick up some of who you've written about. And DoNormaal is brilliant. Best wishes on your new life.
15
And The Stranger loses yet another of its last decent writers (possibly THE last decent writer?) who actually contributed something meaningful to this paper.

Christ, at this point, why even bother trying to be The Stranger anymore? Just complete the transition into some meaningless blog full of daily news and reruns of Savage Love. You might last a little longer just off of the ad revenue.

Well wishes to you Mr. Mizell, you will be missed! I loved reading your stuff and know you will kill it in LA. Thanks for your contribution to our city...

@15, uh, nailed it. Larry Mizell is another great writer bouncing from the paper when removing all of the pot ads is reduced to a few pages of weak copy, Savage Love, Astrology and some music writers writing about their friends. In all fairness, this is the plight of print papers however I need to get rid of all of these side bar ads here on the Slog...tiresome.

It's a tough business. Either you die, or you live long enough to see yourself become the HuffPo.
18
So long, Larry, and thanks for all the fish ...
19
You'll be missed at KEXP and here.
Take care, Lar!

So sad to see you go Larry, but best wishes on your new journey. Moving to Seattle 5 years ago reading your MP gave me a sense of comfort and familiarity. Thank you! You'll certainly be missed.
21
Good luck, peace and love to you, Larry. I've enjoyed reading your column and hearing your voice on Street Sounds every week.

TL;DR.

Is Street Sounds on KEXP ending too? Oh thank god for that if it is -- finally, KEXP will be listenable again on Sunday evenings
23
I was a fan of you way before '04 and Ill be your fan in '24. Thank you for being a spark we could all rally around when there wasn't much else for us ('05-'08). Thank you for covering this uneven rap scene with an inexplicably even tone. You'll be missed, greatly. On to the land of La, see you on the flip.
