Enthusiastically looking forward to the upcoming informationless briefing!

Its possible that the breakdown and delays have all been part of the plan from the start. The tunnel will be complete when STP damn well feels like it.
2
I get a giggle out of Todd Trepanier's last name. We need Bertha like we need a hole in the head!

Except Trepanning is a really useful procedure...
3
All this complaining is pointless. The tunnel is going to be completed. When there are additional delays and failures, then so be it.
4
Right you are, GDfRaindrop. Complaining is pointless (though somewhat entertaining in an odd way). However saying "the tunnel is going to be completed" is yet to be proven true. When that big shaker comes a'shaking, a tunnel will be the least of the infrastructure concerns...
5
@3 So, in other words, no version of this project is too stupid or expensive for you to accept. Got it.
6
Hey, at the rate things are going, at least I probably won't live long enough to have to decide whether to pay the $50 toll they'll be charging once the tunnel finally opens in 2042 or try to navigate through the rubble topside after the massive quake that'll take out most of downtown around 2049.

Just spent the weekend here...

Lovely park, residents couldn't stop raving about how much they love these downtown parks..
8
@6 yes, but you (or your descendants) will be able to smoke weed after the Big One hits!
9
@5: There is nothing for me or any of us to accept or reject. There will be no vote to kill it no matter how stupid or expensive it gets.
10
The legislature will stop it before it bores again, which will be Jan 2016 at the earliest. The legislature is responsible for the ultimate decision to continue the project, not Chris Dixon or STP.

Comte, 2049 works for me for "the big one". I'll be 84, and I don't ever want to be that old, so if I'm still around, it can take me out!
12
@11 - oh pleeeze - think Betty White.
13
The seals on the bearings were grinding/thunking and needed replaced during initial dry run tests in japan, they thought they'd fixed problems when it started drilling here but the seals only made it 1/9th of the way, and now we're all crossing our fingers that they've got the right fix in the works.

Does this state's "lemon law" apply to Bertha ?
14
@13 Ah, trick question. We all recall that it's now known as 'A Bertha Law'.
15
Tour: "Hi everyone! Here's where all your money has been going, Hahaha hahaha!"
16
We could hire the Mexicans that dug out the tunnel to get their drug lord out... They know how to dig fast...
17
3 photos ?

Raindrop and CentralistSteve are awesome.

Hmm, my post about how awesome Raindrop and CentralistSteve are disappeared. It's some sort of plot. I KNEW The Stranger hated me.

If Bertha breaks down again under the city where there will be no access for repairs, it will act as a giant, unpassable plug. There will be no way to complete the tunnel if that occurs.

Please wait...
